“In a way it’s just a piece of paper because you saw those games.”

My first instinct is to say there’s no lamer NCAA penalty than vacating wins, except then I remember the way Bobby Bowden bitched about it.  So maybe there’s more to it than meets the eye.  Maybe.

I only bring this up in light of yesterday’s news that Ole Miss has to vacate a total of 33 wins over six seasons, including Georgia’s horrendous loss in Kirby’s first season.

That, in turn, leads me to ask what the official GTP policy for referring to that game should be going forward.  I think it’s only fair to let the people decide, so, without any further adieu, here comes today’s reader poll.

Further suggestions are, of course, welcomed.

  1. If the game doesn’t count does Ol Miss have to issue ticket refunds?

The throwawayiest game of a throwaway season.

The only UGA game I never watched a single snap of in real time or replay. My dad was in town and needed help on an exterior renovation of his house here and remember being a little torn between watching the first half of the game or driving to Savannah early and giving him a hand. I decided to go early and listened to it on the radio and learned how the folks listening to Orson Welles broadcast “War of the Worlds” must’ve felt as concern morphed to dread, then terror, then skepticism, then embarrassment for believing in UGA the first place, then just laughter. Damn, how miserable was 2016?

I still remember an Ole Miss fan talking trash to us late in the game. I told him we’d whip them next time because they were about to be on probation for a while.

  4. That game was a total mess, but I should have seen it coming after the absolute $#!+ show that was the Nicholls game (will forevermore be the most embarrassing win in program history).

Will the NCAA get my money back for that gosh awful trip and early morning disaster?

So do we have to go back and retroactively count the 2016 Auburn game as a loss to satisfy the requirement of our annual inexplicable failure to show up vs an SEC West opponent?

Was Kirby on the sidelines at the game or was he in the restroom throwing up!

Kirby’s 1st year primary goal was to instill toughness in the team, based on the year I’d say it paid off. I will take the lumps for the gains the next year.

Part of me questions if Saban and now Smart don’t sleep on Bowl games where a title isn’t on the line to humble the players, and give them a constant warning/motivation for the next year.

Kirby absolutely throws games to get the team’s attention. Evidence? 2016 season. Auburn Part 1 in 2017. LSU last year. Too obvious. More proof? We lose to TAMU this season if we’ve locked-up the East and the win can help TAMU knock-out Bama from the West. #3dchess

The LSU game is the one I would question. Auburn play calling was so bad and changed so much in round 2…. I am not going to you’re wrong. Further I think Smart had rather face Gus twice than Saban twice.

TAMU I would have no problem with playing 2nd and 3rd string early and conservative play calling, if the team is perfect going in. A 1 loss SEC champ is very unlikely to not make the playoff and as such why risk getting someone injured?

Saban results after a Bowl loss are very good.

Screw that. I want to win every game.

Also, screw playoff expansion because everything you just wrote becomes actual reality. I don’t want to live in a world where the 2nd (and rare) bell cow game (notre dame being the other) that prompts season ticket demand becomes a rest your starters affair.

I’d love that but National Titles is a greater priority.

The gripe a decade ago with Saban was he would produce 7-8 win years between national title runs. I’ll take that.

Wanted to go with a central time zone theme, but ended up with CSI and yep, those were practically murders.

Ok so the NCAA decided to strip Ole Piss of its wins. What pray tell will the NCAA do about Clemson playing players on PEDs last season?
