Well, this doesn’t sound good.
One member of Georgia’s football recruiting office has been fired and another suspended for 30 days without pay, sources have confirmed to DawgNation.
Dacia King, who is listed as the Bulldogs’ recruiting program coordinator on the team’s website, was dismissed. Lukman Abdulai, who is director of on-campus recruiting, has been placed on a 30-day suspension without pay.
The reason for the actions and whether they are related are not known at this time.
“I’m not talking about any personnel stuff,” Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity said. “Regardless of what the position is, I just don’t comment on personnel decisions or matters. Sorry.”
McGarity also declined comment when asked whether violations of NCAA or SEC rules were involved.
Ah, jeez, one only wonders what steps Greg is prepared to take prostrating himself before the NCAA. That always seems to work.
As far as what happened, I don’t know, but King’s job is described as being “a liaison between prospective student-athletes and the Georgia coaching staff and helps plan visits and set itineraries”, so I’d expect whatever went wrong came out of this sphere of operations, since she’s been canned outright.
Obviously, it’ll be 90 days before we learn anything concrete about this, but in terms of rank speculation pulled straight from my ass, I’ll sure be curious to learn how this came out — or, to be more specific, which of Georgia’s rivals tattled.

I heard on the radio this AM that there is some football spillover from the basketball-paid players thing. Penn State, Alabama, Michigan State, Northwestern were the names I heard.

You’re asking for a major employment discrimination suit, with very messy details likely to come out of it. Does that really sound like the way B-M does business these days?

I’m only guessing and no one knows the facts at issue, but he is one of the glue guys for the operation and she has only been there a year. Perhaps she was within some probationary window? Or she did the “crime” and he was the supervisor. Otherwise you’d probably be right.

Well, I didn’t. Some politician in Louisiana allegedly did, not that rules ever applied much in their politics anyway. But, it is a dead-on fact that the “substance” involved is very, very powerful, and brought down many kingdoms and fiefdoms, all over the world. In other words, it is a truism based on my observations.

A high school football coach I know said Ole Miss reported UGA for recruiting violations not too long ago.

I’m sorry, Greg, but you absolutely do comment on personnel decisions. We have stacks of quotes from you on the firing of coaches for losing games. In fact, you hold press conferences when that happens. Hide out from the media and your supporters on this issue if you like, but don’t hide behind some non-existent policy.

That explanation makes more sense to me. But McGarity and “may want to get in front of this” is an unnerving combination.

Per the insider sites, this has NOTHING to do with sexual relationships of any kind. King failed to follow repeated protocol directives from the UGA Compliance office. The indication is that nothing she did was overly serious with regards to the overall compliance picture, but it was a wanton and repeated violation of University implemented compliance directives. If anything, it sounds like the worst thing that occurred was too much contact with recruits, putting the program at risk for minor violations. All indications are that Abdulai either was aware of King’s disregarding of the compliance directives and failed to report back to compliance, or he was made aware by a recruit and did not follow up, but a fellow staff member DID follow up when the same recruit mentioned it to the football staff. Not much to see here other than an employee violating University protocol that was put in place to protect the program; said employee was terminated; and resulting violations would be self reported and minor. The major sin here wasn’t any kind of NCAA compliance issue, but a wanton disregard for the directives set in her employment with UGA.

I keep reading about how UGA is screwed and how McGarity will fold. It gives me hope that this is so tight lipped now, maybe the process is beginning to get traction in Athens. We’ll find out in the so distant future.
