“When you’re not hungry, you become average.”

I would say that Smart’s learned something about that between last year’s Sugar Bowl and this year’s.

Kirby needs to listen to his own advice.

He wasn’t brought to UGA to beat chumps like Baylor in a meaningless game. We fire coaches that win bowl games, but can’t get to the top of the mountain.

He’d do well to remember that. He better get hungry for a NC, or his time here is drawing to a close. The Sugar Bowl win is putting a ribbon on turd, nothing more.

So a 12-win season is now a turd? Good lord this fan base is turning into a bunch of entitled Bama fans. Of course Kirby is hungry for a natty. The thing is, literally only one team can win that each year. If you wanna fire a coach for three consecutive division titles, continued wins over major rivals, top 5 finish, etc, I really don’t know what to tell you.

Man, you really need to find meaning outside of football. Thats an impressive level of negativity.

This is a ridiculous post. If you have paid even a little attention to the way Kirby Smart has attacked the job since taking over at UGA and seen anything other than a deep and relentless hunger and desire for a national title then I can’t help you. And if you can’t see that Georgia is closer to the national title than they were the day he came back to Athens, then I really can’t help you.

We beat the #7 team in the country with practically half of our starters out and an offensive line held together by duct tape. If you can’t find anything to celebrate in that, maybe find a different team or hobby.

        Relax. It wasn’t that bad.

And their team’s head coach was playing footsie with multiple NFL teams. I’d rather have players missing.

Good win, and of course TN Dawg is insane, but lets not go insane in the other direction.

It was an exaggeration, but not much of one. Need I tell you how many starters were not playing last night? It makes the win all the more impressive and any fan complaining all the more nonsensical.

    • Tn dawg, you have an excellent point, concerning Kirby and the trail to a national championship…there are NO meaningless games on UGA’s football schedule today and the near future, CKS knows this and has a firm idea on how to get there, but please my friend tell us or better yet show us how to put a ribbon on a turd..video at six?

You can buy stick-on bows with ribbons and I slapped one on the back of an FU grad at Christmas. So that’s how you put a ribbon on a turd.

Next week’s class will deal with how to float one in a punch bowl, but the duct taping is tiring and the FU grads are catching on to the cheap cruise scam.

The day the Sugar Bowl is meaningless is the day I’m not a college football fan anymore.

It meant a lot when we lost last year. It meant even more that we won last night.

I will be glad the day you stick to blogging at your home team (tech, florida, barn, etc.) and/or the Senator bans you and Bigshot.
You clearly are not UGA. Have fun in your basement troll.

With CMR it was 10 wins were not enough. Now with CKS it’s 12 wins and a major bowl win are not enough! Seriously? Not a Mullen fan but he said something very profound the other day. “It’s a lot easier to get from 10 to 11 wins than it is to get from 11 to 12 wins.” Kirby now has us through recruiting in the hunt every year. That was not the case previously.

The team last night had a whole different attitude than the one that lost to Texas. Even if they had lost last night, I would not have been concerned. They left it all on the field last night with a depleted line up vs mailing it in last year. Utah’s QB publicly stated about Utah vs TX this year that we all suspect happened with UGA last year. He said they treated the bowl game like a vacation instead of taking it really serious. I suspect that Kirby let it be know before this game that a lot of the guys were playing for their jobs for next year. For UGA this year it was a blue collar work trip and not a vacation.

    • I love that Kirby said after the game that not a single player was late for anything both in Athens and New Orleans. He knew the guys who were playing were focused and were going to leave it all out there. Maybe he was right about saying he was only going to focus on the guys who made the trip. Most were spinning that to Kirby isn’t being forthright or it was a Sgt. Carter type of “5-star hearts/champions of life” comment.

  4. I said it after the game and I feel the same this morning- that was one of this staff’s best coaching jobs. If not the best. There have been bigger games and wins, obviously, but to overcome all the abscences was no small task and the preparedness and drive to win between the last 2 Sugar Bowls seemed night and day.

    • one of this staff’s best coaching jobs. If not the best.

People need to absolutely chill with this lunacy.

Baylor was a disappointed team whose head coach spent half the break dancing with NFL owners about an NFL job.

We were outscored in the 2nd half.

We only scored 26 pts when we had a 3-0 turnover advantage.

Good win, but our team was still HEAVILY FLAWED.

The Rose Bowl coaching job obliterated this. The entire 2017 season obliterated this. This year’s Auburn game was better than this.

      Chill with the hyperbole.

This was a good win over a meh Big 12 team with massive chaos due to the coach flirting with NFL jobs.

        Good grief.
There was a first half too. Outscored Baylor 19 to zip.
Those points count every bit as much as second half point.
Georgia’s coaching staff had a few wrinkles to iron out too.
It was a good, solid win that demonstrated a hunger in the hearts of a young and talented Dawg team.

Muckbeast, you remind me of what I read in the Georgia Tech annual for the 1975-1976 academic year. We beat Tech 49-26. We lead 49-0 after 3 quarters and Dooley literally emptied the bench. I knew the 2nd string kicker and he got in the game as a free safety in the 4th. Tech scored 26 against our scrubs.
The next summer I looked at a Tech acquaintance’s annual and the entry for the Georgia game simple said, “Tech outscored the Mutts 26-0” No mention of the results of the first 3 quarters
Your complaint that Baylor outscored us in the 2nd half made me think of that silly Tech annual entry.

What bugs me was how many players on other teams DIDN’T sit out. And we could’ve won by 3 TDs last night. So I agree with Kirby that we need to get hungrier. But I think the offensive coaching is where we start.

12-2 is a great season. Let’s hope we learned there’s no room for hiccups if you want to win that Natty next season.

    • That bothered me a bit as well . Hopefully that doesn’t continue relative to other top teams that miss out on the playoff.
Of course the best way to fix it is to make the top 4.

  6. Kirby left the guys behind this year that weren’t all in for the Sugar Bowl and it paid off after last years debacle. That was a good strategy and even mentioned Wilson and Thomas in the trophy ceremony. Played it perfectly in my opinion.

Anyone catch that? The sideline mic person needs some kind of award because I heard EVERYTHING! Players cussing, Lanning cussing, Kirby cussing and all kinds of strategy. It was actually quite amazing.

The game and commentary audio were horrible but the dude with the dish was on point.

I didn’t hear this, but the funniest moment of the game to me was when the Baylor offensive lineman got the personal foul for hitting whichever Georgia DL in the face. He went off doing the, “What’d I do?” shrug to one of the Baylor assistants. They watched the replay together and the assistant said matter-of-factly, “You hit him in the face.”
