“Obvious”?  I don’t think that word means what they think it means.

  1. It’s that old saw in legal writing — if you’re saying that something is “clear” or “obvious,” it’s usually because that something is exactly the opposite of clear or obvious.

  2. I thought that what defined “college sports product” was the fact that the athletes were, you know, enrolled in college.

If the only thing defining college sports is the athletes not being paid, then hell, let’s see if we can get Herschel to do us a solid and suit up for the 2021 season. Bet he could still put up 100 yards on Todd Grantham’s defense.

So they’re getting paid and the NCAA is haggling/litigating to maintain wage and price controls? Isn’t that what MONOPOLIES do?
Even I can figure that one out.

  4. No one on the side of amateurism has presented a single cogent argument on why NLI payments are antithetical to college sports. It’s always an emotional argument.

You know what makes college sports great? It isn’t that college players aren’t paid. Supporting your college team is a unifier in our society. I don’t care about your race, political leanings, gender, religion, national origin, sexual preference, etc. If you support the University of Georgia and its sports team, you’re good with me. We may differ on other things, but bleeding Red & Black makes us one (whether you have a degree from the school or you have never had an opportunity to step in the Classic City).

I am not a pay-for-play guy, but the more stubborn the NCAA becomes, the more I move in that direction. At a minimum, these guys deserve to have the same right every other student has – to earn money outside of school.
