Perhaps a foreseen consequence

If there’s NIL, can EA be far behind?

Spurred by a major reversal by the NCAA, video game giant Electronic Arts says it is in the “early stages” of exploring the “possibility of including players in EA Sports College Football,” a company rep tells Axios.

Why it matters: EA, once the subject of a major lawsuit from NCAA athletes over the use of their likeness in the company’s video games, seemingly has the option to use them again, as restrictions against paying college athletes fall…

What they’re saying: “We are watching the recent developments regarding student-athlete name, image and likeness very closely. It’s still very early stages at this point, and we plan to explore the possibility of including players in EA Sports College Football,” the EA rep told Axios.

While a group licensing arrangement would no doubt be a more efficient way for EA to bargain, it could contract with players individually.  If the demand is there…

“If” doesn’t seem to be doing alot of heavy lifting here.

I’ve never been a gamer, never owned one either. I will say I thought the game was very cool and I miss the blog posts/articles that people used to post when they simulated upcoming games and used the data to predict outcomes. Always thought that was fun and interesting.

I’ve missed this game something fierce.

It just sucks that it won’t be until summer 2023 before we get a new version. I was hoping for summer 2022!

    • The jawing that occurred between me and my brother and buddies as we played, and then turning around and playing my kids as they grew up…it was the best game…I’ll buy it for my now 20 something son since I don’t even own a gaming system now…assume it will be on the PS4…or 5 by 2023

The sooner players can organize, the more straightforward all this will be. Hopefully that will provide the stability we seek.

Really think the schools should act as facilitators for this. The schools have to give (sale) their imagines just like the players.
