What a long, strange trip it’s been

Tate Martell keeps on truckin’.

The thing that amazes me the most is that he’s still got two more seasons of eligibility.  Which means he’s good for at least one more move.

He’s the Brian VanGorder of football players.

Just imagine if the portal had been available to help him transfer.

  5. He’s just not finding the right fit for his studies. I would be surprised if Harvard and Yale aren’t on his short list.

  6. Kinda weird to think that he and Jake Fromm were seniors in high school at the same time.

But, if you watched that QB1 show where both were on it, you knew this kid definitely has some of that affluenza going on in his brain.

His parents were his friends. They weren’t parents at all. Not surprising he has bounced around and the massive Napoleon complex is still there.

As a proponent of student athletes transferring, your response makes me laugh. I enjoy that kind of snarky. I will say this kid is not the norm, but he will be used as an example of why transferring is going to ruin football. I just dont see who the victim is here, except for this kid.

Not sure what’s more surprising that he still has two more years left or some coach or coaches will continue chase after him.

Unless he’s gangbusters at UNLV Martell’s highest NIL value was in high school. He probably could have made a nice chunk of change.

Tate’s journey has something of the feeling of “the beatings will continue until morale improves”. I can’t imagine he is enjoying his college years very much.

He messed up. He should have just stayed at OSU. At least he would have had a decent chance to start this year.

The kid was a conceited ass hat on the QB1 show so I’m not terribly surprised he can’t find home. He has got to be slightly rusty and out of shape as well since it seems like its been years since he has played competitively.

  13. Tate Martell is Exhibit A for taking individual recruiting rankings with a grain of salt. Anyone who gets bent out of shape over missing on a high school player needs to remember this. I’m guilty of that with Deshaun Watson, but my problem with both his and Sunshine’s recruitment was that we botched the recruiting of both of them. Our coaching staff botched the player evaluation on Watson and the wooing of Lawrence.

Lawrence didn’t come to Georgia because Fromm was coming and he wasn’t 100% sure he could win the starting job. The Watson story was typical laziness on the part of Richt and Bobo. They waited too long to really show interest in him (junior year) and Dabo had been recruiting him heavily since 9th grade.

I think Watson would have made a big difference in Athens and probably would have saved Richt’s job. I’m not sure Lawrence would have been a big difference maker at Georgia without the great receivers he had at Clemson.

      • Lawrence’s recruiting was botched by Richt and, in particular, Schottenheimer. Apparently, the rumor is he was flat ignored by Schitty at a Dawg Night as a sophomore. I believe Fromm was an Alabama commit when all of this went down. Fromm didn’t flip until after Kirby was announced.

Watson wanted to be the only QB recruited by whatever school he went to, and Bobo wouldn’t commit to that. We also offered way too late because that’s what we were doing in 2011 and 2012.

I think Lawrence had some interest in Georgia when Kirby was hired, at least that is what was being floated around. When Kirby went hard after Fromm and Fromm committed to Georgia, Lawrence walked away. This was the story I heard from “an insider” so take it for what it’s worth. In the end, I think Lawrence made a good move for himself going to Clemson.

Offering late wasn’t limited to 2011 and 2012. I can’t remember how many times I heard blue chip prospects who chose Auburn, Tennessee, Bama, etc. say in interviews that Georgia was their dream school but they never heard from anyone from Georgia until the very end of their recruitment. Rodney Garner was the most worthless recruiting coordinator in the history of college football.

Well, with the 10 suits/cases being brought against Watson are true, if I were St. Dabo, I would start worrying about stuff emerging from the cow college by the lake. We might have dodged a bullet there.

To be clear, I am not hoping such happens, but dang, even if I were a fan from that eyesore, I might be worried.

You’d think at some point he’d realize that he ain’t all that and would just want to move on with his life.

At some point, a person must reevaluate their situation and commit to that goal. Whether that’s being a good teammate or being realistic about their mental and physical ability achieves the same ends.
