Sandbagging, or what?

Just a couple of days after picking Georgia to beat Clemson…

I definitely don’t know if he’s sandbagging, but the lack of “happy talk” from camp about the offense is something to note. Could be silence because they know they have something special, could be area of concern. But focus from what I have read has been on defense & injuries to offensive players – nothing on how the offense is “clicking” or “more explosive”.

This is a real quote? “Doesn’t have a WR” and “Doesn’t have the personal [sic]”.

    Huh?

I’ve said it before and here goes again, “We’re in better shape than is commonly known.” Bank it.

This is the vibe I’ve gotten as well. Injuries and other issues have really hit the receiving corps hard. I’m expecting something that looks like the 2020 offense but hopefully more accurate balls from JT than his priors. We definitely aren’t going to have the kind of receivers Alabama has had in recent years or what LSU had in 2019. It just is what it is. There’s no reason to have those kind of expectations.

If I were a betting man I put another hundred on the Dawgs after reading that. The louder Vince use to whine about how we were doing and how good the other team was, the better I always felt. Guess we’ll see soon enough.

Lacks the maturity that I thought he would have at this age. Sounds like a 22 year old when he speaks.

Two months ago it was about the highest scoring team in school history now that from AM. The truth is now somewhere in the middle.

Most of the injured are not out for the season. This season’s offense should get better every week. Last season showed Monken can get players wide open it’s reasonable to think JT has also improved. This team with a little good luck can still win the SEC and maybe more.

Not sure what AM is thinking unless it’s 2012 made him a believer in the curse just another guy saying look at me. Either way disappointing.

Been a lot of injuries during those months. Maybe Kirby’s being coy about who’s healthy and not and who’ll be ready fit Clemson but it sounds like we’re very depleted right now.

      You got it, Scuba.
Get past Clemson and you’ve got plenty of time to get well before the next round of heavy lifting!!!!

Waiting for a coach to tell you what he’s got coming out of camp??
    C’mon Murray!!
Don’t you remember the greatest quote EVER coming out of a UGA camp??
“I don’t know what we have, he may just be a big, stiff fullback.”

If he woulda’ brought up that “undersized kid from little school in south georgia” …you would swear Mr. Murray was overcome by his inner Munson…

Unlike most if not all the professional journalists who cover Georgia, Aaron has actually seen the team practice/scrimmage. Take that FWIW.

I hope Kirby is keeping the main thing the main thing and not letting himself get distracted in the lead up to this season. We have all the pieces this year: the talent across the board, stable staff, cake schedule…

After watching Nebraska shoot itself in both feet, I just hope we play a clean game and let Clem’s son beat us if they can. First rule of football “Don’t beat yourself.” (See South Carolina game)

Y’all seem to forget about Arian Smith. I don’t think Daniels can out throw his speed. Look for us to go to him early and often on deep fly routes. Look for him to have 2 TD passes.

I’m less worried about WR than I am OL. If the OL can negate Breese and Murphy, Daniels will have a fine game. If they can’t, Daniels will have happy feet all game long, and that’s a recipe for too many missed opportunities.

If the issue is “will we be 2019 LSU / 2020 Bama explosive on offense?” then…probably not. But we should have known that already. What we had last year were very good receivers who were able to get separation and we had effective route combos and schemes that for people open…not just Pickens and Jackson, but a whole slew of guys. Until JT we couldn’t hit a lot of those open looks. That talent base is back this year, even with the injuries recently suffered. The scheme is back. JT is back. It has potential to be best we’ve ever seen but probably not joe burrow LSU 2019. If we can have a top 10 offense nationally and a top 3 defense or something like that, then we’re in good shape. Number 1 offense in the nation is not necessary and should never have been the expectation.

What I can’t figure is if Murray is trying to say that even that expectation is not gonna happen, and he’s blaming our receiver personnel, then why were these same receivers (it wasn’t just pickens) getting open last year? This feels like Pat Dye “Man enough” stuff to me.

So the quote is paraphrased from their Punt and Pass podcast and not exactly accurate. Murray and Butler said they do not to expect a 2019 LSU-esque reinvention of the offense because of the amount of injuries at WR we’ve suffered. Instead they are predicting a Georgia offense that leans on its strength (RBs) and looks more like a somewhat evolved manball production a la 2020.

I’ll be good with that if it leads to wins. Run The Damn Ball, keep their O off the field and the Dawgs D fresh and when they load the box light ’em the fuck up. The Dawgs have the QB and RB talent to make that work. A depleted receiver corps makes a shootout less desirable than it already is. Take what their D gives you.

Aaron basically summed up why I do not see a path to victory against Clemson: we have no receivers, Burton and KJ are banged up, a ton of people are out. This has the feel of the 2019 seccg where we are hoping (completely unsubstantiated hope btw) a bunch of pass catchers who haven’t done anything before now suddenly catch fire under the brightest lights because that’s what is needed to hold serve against a CFP bound team and its high octane offense.

Next week is an L, would love to be wrong but I rarely am.

The sky isn’t falling yet. They also said they predict defenses across the board to make a comeback this season and high octane offenses scoring 45+ PPG won’t be as common. That I’m not so sure of though.

“would love to be wrong but I rarely am.” Around here that’s often followed by, “Hold my beer!”
If I was that confident I’d bet the farm. You’re a smart guy, CD, and I have respect for your opinion. Cheer up, man. The Dawgs historically have success against the taters. This game is a toss up at worst.

I’m most likely going to bet the Clemson – 3 current point spread. Also feel free to give me shit all season if the dawgs look awesome and pull out the W next Saturday. I stand by my predictions. Again, let’s hope I’m wrong.

    • Maybe you should be in the sports gambling business rather than whatever is your vocation of choice. Since you’re convinced we don’t have a chance and you rarely make a mistake, you should be confident in putting next month’s mortgage payment on Clemson.

I’m so ready for the players to show what they’ve got next week. Given all injury talk, happy talk, sandbagging talk, snake-bit Georgia talk, I wish the game was this afternoon.

We’re going to lose this first game (too many injuries in the WRs, TEs, and the OL), but we’re going to get healthy as the year goes on and we’re going to beat Bama in the SEC Title Game, we’ll beat Oklahoma in the Cotton as the No. 3 seed (Clemson will be the No. 1 seed in the Orange who will avenge their loss to No. 4 seed Tosu from last Playoffs), and then we will avenge this opening game loss and beat the shit out of Clemson in the National Title Game. Book it.

I bet on the Dawgs at Cherokee this weekend. I then won enough at blackjack to cover that bet win or lose, but if they win, I get $700 for my $100.

If your scenario were to play out it would actually be kind of fun, because we would probably be dawgraded until we lifted the CFP trophy.

      Point in season/ national narrative
Lose to Clemson/ same ole Georgia, can’t score points, can’t hang with CFB elites like Clemson, 1980, UGA left for dead

11 straight wins, hopefully including a beat down of Florida / man sec east is hot garbage this year, even a crappy team like Georgia can go undefeated in sec play the division sucks so bad. How bad do you think Saban is going to beat Kirby this time?

Beat bama in seccg / WTF just happened????Alabama stunned. Errrr, well like I said herbstreit if you don’t come prepared to play every week you can get upset by a crappy team like Georgia, even if you’re nick Saban. First round exit in the playoffs fo sho

Beat Oklahoma in round 1 / Oklahoma sucks, program has never won a CFP game, if Georgia didn’t have the good fortune of drawing them both times in the playoffs same could be said of them. Clemson is going to beat them, again

Healthy UGA beats Clemson / shit I guess these guys are pretty good.
