“Will Alabama be Florida’s signature Mullen moment in 2021?”

Dude who is a two-time graduate of the University of Florida isn’t saying it will be, just that if it is, the win will cement Mullen as the SEC’s second-best coach.  I mean, look at these credentials!

Long criticized for failing to win the big one, Mullen is 5-6 against ranked teams at Florida. That’s not tremendous, but considering UF was 9-26 against ranked teams from 2010-2017, it’s a massive improvement.

He’s 6-2 against Florida’s traditional rivals of Georgia, Tennessee and FSU, flipping the script in the FSU rivalry where the Gators had lost 5 consecutive games entering Mullen’s first campaign. He has delivered at least 1 signature win in each of his 3 seasons, whether it was a big win over a top-5 LSU at home in 2018, a dominant victory over top-5 Auburn in 2019, or last year’s rout of rival Georgia in the Cocktail Party.

… No, he doesn’t have the national title Jimbo Fisher has and he hasn’t won the SEC Championship like Kirby Smart has at Georgia. But no coach ever won at the level he did at Mississippi State…

I’m convinced.  Why wait?  Elect the man into the Coaching Hall of Fame now.

Especially after being down 14-zip and cheap shotting the 4th string walk-on QB. They’re reeeeeal proud of that.

I keep beating this dead horse, but if our Te catches the wide open ball going into halftime, it’s a 10 point lead instead of 17. Maybe less, because he had a lot of room to run. I’d think we at least get a field goal out of it, putting it at seven.

One play is what that game hinged on.

FSU basically flipped the script themselves during the Mullen tenure. Giving him credit for that dumpster fire is a stretch. Same could be said for Tennessee.

I can’t believe Florida had lost 5 in a row to FSU. Damn.

FSU was a national title caliber program back then. Florida hasn’t been able to compete with that since Meyer faked a heart attack. Since FSU fell off a cliff (all by themselves, without any pushing from Florida), it has been about as big an accomplishment to beat them as it is to beat a mid tier G5 program.

These guys really are late-Richt era Georgia; “it’s not so ugly if you look at it from juuuuust the right angle. Actually it’s… it’s beautiful!!!”

I’ll say it a more realistic way for them “Mullen beat Georgia one time by two touchdowns, in a down year, after their third string QB got injured mid-game.”

He lumps Mullen’s record against UGA in with his record against UT and FSU as if those three teams are one.
That would be like lumping UGA’s record against Alabama, UT and GT into one statistic.
And he insinuates (laughingly) that Mullen’s coaching had something to do with their wins over the fallen FSU…who can’t beat an egg.

As UGA football has found out, a program isn’t measured against the bammers, it’s total wins vs the bammers, as noted the FU hc is 0-10 (CKS is zero also)…spending $$$$ on UGA football upgrades is kind of a moot topic in the facilities race, only wins vs little nicky gives you gold (and recruits)..the FU hc can cry about how FU played vs the bammers blah, blah, blah…#FTMF

The author started off OK stating Mullen was 0-10 against Lord Saban. Then the alcohol kicked in and he began to dream. Reality is coming down the track arriving this Saturday. The final nails to his coffin of dreams while be coming Halloween.

Neil Blackmon is in love with Dan Mullen.
That’s the only thing that would explain this ridiculous article.

    • It’s telling that Neil Blackmon’s comments below his own story carry a Gator logo next to his name.

It’s also telling that, after reading the comments on that story, I’m now seeking help to count up to 10…talk about feeling “dumber” after reading.

Mullen gets better publicity than any HC in history coming off a 4 loss season. Hall of fame would be lucky to have him.

Unfortunately, come Saturday that hall of fame candidacy is gonna take a serious hit.

Thanks for the tip. I did enjoy the comments. The gators are slobbering all over themselves. I think Bama wins easily by at least 3 TDs. Saban is going to pound them.

  11. I like how 1-2 vs Georgia turns into 6-2 vs three traditional rivals, two of which have been historically bad (compared to the last forty years) coaching bus stops during his three years at Florida.

I know Mullen “winning” at MSU is a point of pride, but Leach could have them at Mullen-level success this season in the West. That LSU game is an 11:00 am kick in Starkvegas. Like LSU, A&M is less than advertised plus they get Kentucky at home Halloween weekend and also draw Vandy from the East. They could be 7-1 going into November. They could also lose at Memphis this week, so who knows.

Now we know how other fan bases looked at us when Richt was our coach. Change a few team names and that article could have been written about Richt at Georgia.

No, but he ran a con on the Georgia fan base for about 8 years and I don’t like that. I saw it in 2008 but the majority of Georgia fans didn’t. In fact, some still refuse to see it. Our opponents and their fans saw it clearly.

I think Mullen is running a similar con on the UF fan base except he is playing the “cool guy” role instead of Richt’s “good man” schtick. We see it but the UF fans don’t at this point. That was the whole point of my post.

        • Please tell us what the con was.

2008 – that team ended up overrated in the preseason but still finished the season ranked in the top 10.
2009 – Joe Cox – it wasn’t pretty, but the staff decided redshirting Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger was better for the long-term than having a real QB competition.
2010 – do you think that team’s record would have been a little bit better if Greg McGarity doesn’t suspend our best player for 4 games for something not even related to the reason for the investigation? The Murray era started with one important arm tied behind our backs.
2011 – That team won the East with its warts that popped up in the first 2 games of the season but still appeared in the SEC title game.
2012 – a con man doesn’t take a team within an eyelash of a national title game appearance.
2013 – a rash of knee injuries eventually ending with Murray’s injury totally changed that season.
2014 – I’m still pissed about the Florida game, but once again, does a con man rally his team to do what they did when the Heisman favorite is suspended for 4 games for doing something that is totally legal under today’s rules? We were one tactical error (the Tech pooch kick) from playing in a New Year’s 6 game.
2015 – The Bama game really demonstrated the gap that had opened. The Florida game was the final nail in Richt’s era at Georgia.

If he were this con man you portray him to be, the powers that be that were a part of the program wouldn’t be agreeing to honor him on November 6 on Dooley Field. Neither Ray Goff nor Jim Donnan got any kind of recognition after their departure.

I fully support the expectation that Mullen will have a signature moment vs Alabama this Saturday. His signature is making an ASS out of himself, and I fully expect him to do something monumentally stupid before the game is over.

  20. Corch Irvin Meyers, Former Jags Corch (2024)

I went up and down the commenting board asking him to comment on Cousin Eddie’s horrific record vs. the Top-10 and Top-25, because with the completely mythical nature of the media narrative around him, you’d think he’d have won a lot of those kinds of games… except he hasn’t.

Sideshow Dan the Clown wins the games he’s supposed to win and loses the game he’s supposed to lose; he almost NEVER wins games against more talented teams.

That makes him an AVERAGE coach.

When you point that out to ‘turds like Blackmon, they suddenly have nothing to say.

People who are about to taste reality:

Gator fans thinking they have a chance against Bama – if ya couldn’t do it with Trask, why do ya think EJ can. AR15’s hamstring will keep him quieter.

The SC fan on Finebaum who stated “SC has best running back room in the SEC” (therefore, the country). Edwards (our #5 option) would be starting at many programs.

Y’all check back about midnight Saturday.

There’s a video somewhere (Can’t find it) of Saban at practice before the UGA “blackout” game. “They’re wearing black because they’re going to their motherfucking funeral” I believe was what he said…

That’s what I’m saying (re: the Cochran video)…… dude, it never works out well for people who run their mouths before they play alabama. I think their staff feeds off of it and puts in extra hours every time an opponent runs their mouth.

Not saying be afraid of Bama, just shut up and go play them hard and try and beat them. But every single time somebody tries and hype that game or talk shit, they get their asses handed to them.

Their fans and sycophant writers will be exactly like we were under the previous regimes and still are today. They will point to an injury to the qb, a couple “bad” calls by the officials, a play that would have made a difference if the receiver catches the ball, a turnover that changed the game, etc.. You know, the same “IF ONLY!!” BS Georgia fans have been saying for decades now. That is what fans do.

So, why didn’t he list all SIX ranked wins? Georgia was their one ranked win in 2020. Auburn and Virginia in 2019. Miss St, LSU, Michigan in 2018.

This actually looks like a regression to me. What gives?

I’d wait for him to at least get back to Atlanta before I start mixing that cement. Would it be splitting hairs to wait for him to win the conference and CFP game? Or is that a foregone conclusion? South Florida / FAU ain’t coming out of that tunnel Saturday.

Something about that Mullen article didn’t sit right with me.

It references the incredible start where he’s won 29 of his first 35 games as head coach.

Do the math… 35 games in three years is less than three full seasons. “Oh 2020 season was short due to COVID” yeah but no:

    2018 – 10-3
    2019 – 11-2
    2020 – 8-4

    That’s 29-9 not 29-6

The chump who wrote that article left out LSU, Bama in title game, Oklahoma in bowl game
