It’s hard to have any regrets about the ’21 season, but it’s a shame we didn’t get to see a full, healthy season of George Pickens in this offense.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I was hoping he would come back for one year of stats (and no injuries or other stuff) that would improve his draft status into a 1st round selection. It seems he’s a 2nd round guy right now.
He’s tough and goes to get the ball. You have to love the guy.

Whoever gets him in the 2nd round is getting a steal. That guy can play. And like you, I was hoping he might come back for a full season, but can understand his reasons.

He is also one hell of a blocker. He seems to enjoy embarrassing opposing corners.

Yep – I’m guessing he won’t be able to do that in the NFL.

I’m amazed he was willing to play at all. You’d think most people in his shoes would be protecting their draft status by writing off the season. I wasn’t always a huge fan of some of the high strung stuff, but he has talent to burn. I hope he has a long, healthy pro career.

It seems we’ve had to watch a lot of our super special players stand on the sidelines over the last several years.

Had he been healthy for his UGA career he would have equalled or surpassed AJ Green.

Im not too sure about that. We don’t throw it nearly as much as the Richt regime.

Only 2 years in Richt’s final 7 (the only ones for which I had stats at the ready) surpassed this season’s total pass attempts.
An interesting sidenote – we threw the ball more this year than in 2017.

Not terribly surprising; 2017’s national rankings at times for run-heavy playcall ratio were like the service academies, then Trek, then us.

Weird way to see it like that. Having a 5 star on the bench with nearly 100 attempts throws it off a bit. Our starter with 287 attempts only beat Mason and Lambert.

Also an interesting side note. Jake Fromm threw more as a freshman than Bennett as a senior.

To surpass A.J. Green, at least a suspension of 8 games is required…GO DAWGS!

Some NFL team gonna get a damn good receiver.

I’ll always love George for throwing that tech loser into a wall!

I mean, the man got an unsportsmanlike when we WERE ON DEFENSE. I don’t condone it, but he is definitely ALL DAWG to his bone marrow https://youtu.be/ERnBxFC9j9M

I know a lot of pearls were clutched about that, but I thought that was funny as hell. I loved the guy. He played with passion, made great plays, and seemed to be a great teammate.

The GT dude started it.

If only Kirby’s staff could coach up lesser talent at WR so we weren’t always undone by a 5* guy getting hurt. Oh wait.

Goosebumps watching those clips, he certainly was a good one for us.
Like others said, he’s a first-round talent some team is likely going to pick-up at a discount. He didn’t get a chance to takeover any of these last few games, but he made his presence felt and reminded us why he’s so special.
Godspeed Mr. Pickens!!

He just could not be covered one-on-one. Probably more talented than AJ Green, but to echo Armydawg above, we just didn’t have enough of a healthy Pickens to really make a comparison.

More talented than AJ? Don’t think so. AJ is likely to be a first ballot HoF guy.

If Pickens stays healthy, I could see him being one too.

He definitely could. I just think AJ is absolutely special. He made everything look easy.

I will always regret that we got robbed of the full Pickens experience.

George is a baller, I’m glad he got his ring, hope he stays healthy and goes far in the NFL and continues to represent the Georgia Bulldogs well.
Had he been healthy all last season…man it could have been an easy 1000 yd season…

Our offense couldn’t do anything before his amazing catch in the Natty. That one play loosened everything up and got us rolling. And to come back in and make any impact at all after tearing his ACL in March with aspirations of turning pro after this season… really speaks to this kids character. Glad he got his ring. George you are and always will be a DGD! Here’s to a long productive NFL career!

I agree. There were many people that always thought he was a problem recruit, but I never saw him cause any problems and in fact seemed to be a great teammate. It would have been very easy and understandable to shut it down last season and prepare for the draft, but he busted ass in rehab and came back to make some key plays for us. DGD in my book.

Kirby always said that he was one of the hardest workers in practice… I think it was more maturity issues than anything. Looking back on it now though… squirting Guarantano with a water bottle was pretty damn funny and he will always be cemented in Georgia lore by tossing the Tech nerd head first into that wall. The shushing the Michigan sideline before putting their DB on his ass and then shushing them again was icing on the cake. Definitely gonna miss that kid.

As fun as it is to watch the catches, I think I enjoyed the blocks equally as much. Watching him fire off the line and putting a DB on his ass is a thing of beauty.

The Orange Bowl shushing is iconic.

His hunger and desire to rehab and come back to play for his teammates and for Georgia, I’ll remember it for the rest of my days. He’s a Damn Good Dawg. He loved having fun, grew up a lot in his years here, but he never got outworked. And obviously he tortured Tech and Auburn so he’s aces in my book – will never forget him throwing that Nerd into a literal brick wall. I hope his NFL career is long and very profitable.

We all loved George, but his unselfish return to the field in 2021 pushed into the esteemed DGD category.
