Not exactly WRU, but still…

I’ve seen a fair amount of chatter recently that Georgia’s coaches, Smart and Monken in particular, have had to spend time explaining to wide receiver recruits that Georgia’s offense isn’t wideout adverse.  (Burton’s departure to Alabama didn’t help the narrative, to put it mildly.)  So, in light of that, I found this stat kind of interesting.

Does it matter?  I dunno, but it should.

All the Dawgs hater’s narratives are being disproved one by one. It won’t be long until they’re suggesting rules particular to hamstring UGA.

The WR haul this year is going to be impressive. To hell with what the casual observer thinks he sees. We know better.

WR’s should go play for Mike Leach if they want touches without being one of the best players on the field. In this offense, the best players get the ball.

  4. Georgia has been fine at wide receiver. For all of the Metchie & Williams talk, wide receivers aren’t the game changers in the passing game. The guy who handles the ball on every play is the game changer … the QB. The difference between the two Bama games this year was that we generally neutralized Bryce Young and took away the running game in Indy. Young was never comfortable in the pocket and that started when JD99 made him fumble (yes, it was a fumble. He wasn’t attempting to throw the ball. Davis knocked his arm forward) and ended when he threw the pick 6.

You get a guy who can make every throw like Matthew Stafford or can change the game with his arm or legs like $Cam Newton. There’s a reason there are a lot of guys you never heard of in college playing WR in the NFL.

While I’m on my soapbox, we keep hearing about Georgia only having 1 1,000 yard receiver in our history. All of that is thanks to Greg McGarity with his unnecessary proctology exam of AJ Green’s personal finances after it was proven he wasn’t at the infamous South Florida agent party reported on by TMZ.

The insistence to pretend the loss of their two most dangerous weapons on offense didn’t matter in that game just baffles me.

The college game is a passing game now. Losing your two best receivers and two starting corners for a rematch Is going to leave a pretty big damn mark.

Am I disappointed the W didn’t come with Bama at full strength? I guess? But it didn’t. Pretending to the contrary is the same kind of blinders we mock other fanbases for

      • You don’t think the way we beat Bryce Young to half to death had anything to do with it? Injuries happen. Bama should have been getting other players ready than focusing on stats throughout the season.

It all had impact. Georgia changed its game plan. The game plan changed in big part because Metchie wasn’t on the field. It changed again when Williams went down. Argue with the video of Lanning addressing his troops: “This changes everything.”

If Georgia lost its two best WRs and also its two starting corners and then lost a rematch, I can guarantee you you wouldn’t be saying, “Welp, the injuries had nothing to do with it.”

Luck always plays a big role when two evenly matched teams face off. Kind of crazy to pretend it doesn’t

          • Kind of crazy to ignore our injuries and that we won with our walk-on QB, Honkey McFailson, but you wallow in not beating Bama at full strength. I’ve got another full day of reminding everyone we are STILL National Champions and loving every minute of it.

Wow. Sounds like you wanna put an asterisk on a natty because of the other team’s injuries. Well I’ll put one on the 2017 game then because of the stellar officiating. But you do you.

If you want to put an asterisk on every title won in part because of luck, go asterisk 90% of titles in all sports.

Pretending luck – officiating luck, injury luck, whatever – has no bearing in the result is just straight fantasy.

I suspect, if you did this by only 1st round, it would be quite different. Why Burton left

If a WR can get open Monken will get him the ball. The problem is with the TE’s we have the wide outs are getting to be space clearers. However, if you can beat a DB deep quick enough, that SBIV is not running for his life, then he has demonstrated he can throw long from the pocket. Once again this is a factor of Oline not necessarily QB or WRs it’s the Oline. Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn who we throw to as long as we score more than the other team.

The nfl is paying attention to the development under CKS and clearly values WRs who downfield block. Considering we’ve barely scratched the surface with WRs & NFL QBs, this shows weve done a very solid job.

It’s almost as if NFL scouts and GMs don’t do their drafting just by clicking the “sort” button on gaudy college stat sheets.
