This triptych currently adorns ESPN.com’s college football page, which highlights an article summarizing spring practices around the SEC:
Aside from participating in SEC football, what do all three have in common?
It can’t be accomplishments, since the guy in the middle hasn’t coached his first SEC game yet.
It can’t be winning, since the guy in the middle has a 5-15 record as a head coach.
It can’t be 2009 prospects, since nobody expects the guy in the middle’s team to play in the SECCG.
So you tell me.
Look out, baby, it’s that dreaded ESPN narrative coming down the tracks. Junior is newsworthy. Because… just because.
Maybe ESPN just left out the caption,”Can you pick out the item that doesn’t belong here?”

I just heard about Jr’s new recruit. This guy allegidly was involved somehow in a rape, & kidnapping when he was 13 according to the AJC. He was found deliquant by the jury. Don’t know exactly what that means, but he was put in state custody until he turned 17. His accomplice was 17 at the time & sentenced to 10 years in prison. I understand people diserve a second chance especially for a 13 year old, but you can’t just make this stuff up. Does Jr. make decisions based on the type of headline he see’s in his head at the time?

Maybe Lane has the kid earmarked for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Eh, I think Laner is newsworthy (and so do you, given the regular updates about him on this blog!)… If the commonality is “interesting storyline”, it makes sense. Who *doesn’t* want to see what happens with Team Kiffin this year?
