Who knows what today will bring? In the meantime…
- Branden Barden says Vanderbilt has “some swagger going down to Georgia.”
- Coach Caldwell and Coach Belin go back aways – in fact, the former recruited the latter.
- “SEC ON CBS” season-to-date coverage is the highest-rated college football package on TV.
- The evolution of Georgia’s offensive line continues.
- When you lose to the Zooker at Homecoming, grumbling is inevitable.
- If you want to succeed in the SEC, you better be good in scoring defense.
- Like Year2, I was surprised to hear boos in the Swamp at a critical juncture in last Saturday’s game.
- “If they don’t get things together, it could start to have an effect [on recruiting].” No, that’s not a quote from a Georgia recruit. It’s 2012 wide receiver recruit Latroy Pittman talking about the Gators’ offense.
- Patrick Garbin puts Aaron Murray’s season so far in perspective.
Corch is going to have another attack of heartburn if this keeps up.

Anyone see the Red and Black article this morning about whether Caleb King’s loan issue was an NCAA violation? Since when has the R&B turned into the AJC in terms of trying to destroy UGA’s football program?

Alert the Pulitzer Prize committee!
Even if all the allegations are true, it’s a real stretch to label the woman “an institutional employee or a representative of the institution’s athletic interests”.

They are already on standby.
Likewise rumor is that the Peabody Award crew is gearing up to recognize the most outstanding achievements in electronic media for dissemination of interfacts demonstrated by an inadmissable law enforcement report.
However, from Caleb’s point of view, the pics and video should be enough to show that the lender was a friend with benefits making her an “established family friend”. After all, she didn’t push the criminal charges so what possibly could go wrong?
“There is a bylaw — [Bylaw] 16.11.1.3 — and it says ‘A student-athlete may receive a loan from an established family friend without such an arrangement constituting as an extra benefit.’ I think [a family friend] has to be an established relationship,” said Michael Paciorek, faculty compliance associate at Eastern Michigan University.”

If the Red and Black is *still* the only organization reporting the issue, then I think Zach Dillard’s way off base (surprise) in reporting that King could be facing an NCAA violation. It takes someone with more gravitas than a f’ing college student reporter to make that sort of pronouncement (when not a SINGLE expert interviewed for the story seemed to think that it would be a problem). If the AJC isn’t running with this (and yes, the AJC keeps up with the R and B, so it’s not like they don’t know this is out there), then it’s not happening. Look, *if* the details of this story are true, what it boils down to is that King was having relations with this girl and she liked it enough to loan him money. That’s not an NCAA violation. That’s life as a college athlete.

What are you talking about? She drove a bus! That’s like…Michael Adams himself giving Caleb King money!

I love this quote regarding Vandy’s 5-0 start in 2008 and their successive struggles:
“I think we got complacent and thought we were going to do the same thing as the year before,” Barden said. “We felt every year was going to be that easy.”
That easy? That was quite possibly the flukiest 5-0 start in the history of college football. Also, it must be…interesting to be a Vandy fan. When you take heart from blowing out a terrible Eastern Michigan team.

I was about to say, I didn’t see much in that article to justify the “Vandy on the Rise” headline. Also, I’m not sure beating a bad (horrible) Ole Miss team and Eastern Michigan should give you much swagger, but, if you’re Vanderbilt… yeah, this is a special season for them so far. Not that we can just roll our helmets onto the field and beat them, but I don’t think I’d necessarily get a big head if I were Vanderbilt…

Funny aside…. my niece attended a recruitment meeting for Vanderbilt (she’s a HS junior). One of the positives they listed for attending Vandy is that there was no waiting list for football tickets, and you could buy as many as you like. (The meeting was in Atlanta, so yes, they were making a joke at their expense.)

Has anybody seen the article in the red and black tomorrow? I swear that filthy fish rag needs to be shut down. I’ve never seen a school newspaper attempt to take down football players from their own school before. This morning they are trying to blow the whistle on Caleb King committing an NCAA violation by accepting $500 to help pay his bills from that girl… unbelievable.

I very much enjoyed McG’s quote in that story. He didn’t exactly come out and say “this is ridiculous,” but if you read between the words, it’s there.
What a scoop, fellas!

My favorite reply (so far) to the booing Gators! Only in the SEC can a fanbase turn so quickly!
Really?
You think the Gators only lose one more game this year, despite having games v. South Carolina, at Florida State and whatever bowl game they end up at? That’s not to mention a potentially resurgent Georgia (with A.J. Green and a bone to pick with Meyer, on neutral ground and with a season/coach to save), a frisky Mississippi State and a couple of little guys (App. State and Vandy) primed to make fire wood out of a fallen, once-mighty oak? I would be very surprised if this team manages to get to double digit wins at this pace…

It seems the Gayturds can’t be satisfied with any losses. Steve was right the Gators are a What have you done for me this week group.

If FLA were to lose to MSU, UGA, FSU and in the bowl (counting the Bama game a total of 5 losses for this season) Irving Meyers would actually be on the hot seat! I really think that is rich!
