Don’t cry for me, Alabama.

There are times when I wonder if Nick Saban bitches for the sheer pleasure of doing it.  How else to explain this crap?

… Alabama coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that he’s growing sick of his fellow SEC coaches taking aim at players who make early public commitments to member schools while not claiming complete innocence on his part.

Though he never mentioned any specific offender, Saban’s rant followed a question about the signing of Russellville’s Brent Calloway. The running back/linebacker committed to Alabama as a high school sophomore before suddenly trading allegiances to Auburn early last month. In the end, he honored the original commitment and signed with the Tide.

Calloway never publically said Auburn coaches planted negative thoughts in his mind about the Tide.

That wasn’t the point, Saban said.

“In the Southeastern Conference when a guy commits, that just makes them a target,” Saban said. “It isn’t like that everywhere in the country. It’s really not, but it is that way here, so we expect it. We are not really upset about it when it happens. We just try to manage it.”

Alabama, though, has landed at least one recruit in the past two years who had committed elsewhere first.

“We got a couple of guys too,” Saban said. “So I’m not saying we’re squeaky clean because there are a couple of guys that we got that were committed to someone else, but they decommitted from those places and they were interested in Alabama.”

He’s not upset about it… but he still rages about it to the media.

His guys commit, which makes them targets… but his program isn’t “squeaky clean”, either.

It’s like Paul Johnson, minus the principle.

The sad thing is that the SEC feels a need to take this under advisement.

So basically Saban is bitching about other schools doing the exact same thing that he does.

I see the makings of a 3 act opera in this story, if one were to be so inclined.

Just another case of “the man” trying to keep Alabama down.

3 act opera? Well, there’s some musical drama in the title, of course.

Cue Saban on the balcony of the Casa Carmesí : “Have I said too much? There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you. But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true.”

I can’t imagine any comparison of Saban and Paul Johnson that would be accurate except that they are both head coaches.

How about “Saban has a personality similar to Tech’s Paul Johnson, with the exception that Saban wins a lot of games?”

Like a kid whose friends discover all the same video game cheat-codes that he’s been using against them. All the sudden, the game isn’t fun anymore, and it’s their fault.

    Nick Saban is a child.

Does St Nick even remember Cyrus K from DeMatha High School? I could swear I heard him, live and in living color, on the Worldwide Leader in Sports television, COMMIT to Auburn on National Signing Day, didn’t I,……didn’t I…..?

Nick is just throwing out ideas to Scarbinsky for this week’s column. Chiz hasn’t called anybody a “pimp” yet, so he’s not quoteworthy.

    1. What exactly happens when a player commits? Does he sign a document? Does he make an announcement? What?

    2. I don’t think it’s ‘fellow SEC coaches’ taking aim at players who commit early. Well maybe in a few cases. I think it’s mostly the proxies and booster/donors, who can give the coaches deniability.

    3. WTH is Nick’s point?

I think y’all need to dig a little deeper so as to understand the code.

I think Saban understands the rough and tumble world of recruiting, but there were some things about this recruiting season that didn’t make sense.

    Have a good day,

Does anyone else recall a story where Satan and Bama spent millions of dollars updating a high school field in Florida (for practice) in December for a bowl game? The high school just so happened to have 2 highly recruited players from there that signed with Ala., Saban is the dirtiest coach in america and Chiz (+ Troop Taylor) is coming on strong though!!!

You should watch the video of that press conference. He starts sweating when asked about oversigning. Went to prepared notes he had brought along and then rambled for 5 minutes in a 430-word rant.

He’s so screwed, and he knows it.

No, it’s exactly like Paul Johnson…check and see how many in Tech’s recruiting class were previous verbal commits to other schools. Both of these guys rail about players not knowing what “commitment” means, but neither of them have any problem accepting guys who are breaking their verbal commitment to another school.
I don’t have a problem with the practice at all, by the way…Saban and PJ just annoy me by talking out both sides of their mouth, sometimes in the same sentence.
