“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
If the Barners go 7-5 this year then the talk of the “best coach in CFB” will start to decline.

I’ll try not to crow when Auburn and Chizik go into a trough now that the franchise is gone.

I have read the predictions and I understand the conventional wisdom but something tells me that Auburn is still gonna be pretty good next year. Supposedly several of the replacements are actually better than the players who graduated/left from last season. The key is QB. Can they find an effective replacement?

I gotta stick with the feeling they’re gonna be down. Cam Newtown is a once in a generation college player.

Yeah, Newton was the key to Auburn winning the SEC and BCS titles last year. He’s gone. But supposedly they have really good players at other positions. If the Barners can come up with a really good QB…Russell Wilson maybe….who knows. I don’t buy that they are going in the tank unless the NCAA takes action to put them there.

What’s really going to kill them, I think, is the o-line. Pugh and Ziemba were pretty skilled when they weren’t chop-blocking people; Auburn’s line has gone from well over 100 total career starts to something like 15. That plus Ted Roof having to rebuild a defense equals a season where they may be lucky to win eight games.
