Bets?  Miami would be the obvious one, but maybe it’s something out of the blue.

**********************************************************************************

UPDATE:  It’s Miami, alright.  And it’s bad.

… Shapiro said he violated NCAA rules with the knowledge or direct participation of at least six coaches – Clint Hurtt, Jeff Stoutland and Aubrey Hill on the football staff, and Frank Haith, Jake Morton and Jorge Fernandez on the basketball staff. Multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports Shapiro also violated NCAA rules with football assistant Joe Pannunzio, although the booster refused to answer any questions about that relationship.

**********************************************************************************

UPDATE #2:  Orson Charles got invited to see Shapiro’s closet.

Is this in regards to conference expansion or NCAA penalties? If it’s the latter, I’d rather see Auburn / Ohio St. news.

I’d love it to be something else besides the U story, but I’d agree, it’s probably that. Looks like he had to get it out once news broke of the official investigation…but another ACC team would be rather delicious, no? 3 smoking crater scandals in one conference within a year?

I love 80’s retro as much as the next guy, but I’d prefer the NCAA just stop wearing socks and start wearing pastels as opposed to hammering the U again. Now, hammering Auburn, THAT could be fun.

All that stuff with the Alabama gambling ring just finished up. I know, Senator, that you said nothing came of it, but maybe Robinson knows something that no we don’t. By the way, what’s your best guess on what “soon” means? Today?

    • Robinson broke the Tressel story earlier this year. He promised he’d have an even bigger scandal to report before the end of the summer, referring to it as a 10 on a scale of 10. (By comparison, he called the Tressel story an “8”.)

Would further problems at Miami justify a “10” in terms of importance? I tend to think not. Now Auburn getting f*cked by Dave Kingman’s bat, YES!

If it ain’t Auburn, and it’s Miami, then it’s not a 10 out of 10. Miami hasn’t been relevant since joining the ACC. (just my $0.02)

Also, unless Shapiro implicates any coaches in his accusations I don’t see how his activities rise to a 10.

The only thing it can be to warrant a “10” is Auburn. The NCAA has ’em cold–that’s my guess. The Danny Sheridan stuff has come to pass. They have the bag man and at documentary evidence of the payment. Got to be.

UM coach Al Golden is expected to pledge to Yahoo!Sports and the NCAA that UM will temporarily suspend the use of this U.S. Navy training video to shanghai recruits onto to the boat

For something to rate a 10 for me, someone is being hit with the SMU Death Penalty. I couldn’t even begin to guess who warrants that at this point. You think UNC? Maybe that would explain the firing of Butch Davis at such an akward time. Maybe Auburn is getting the axe, there by making the addition of TAMU extremely timely. 🙂

Auburn is not eligible for the Death Penalty. Now bammer, that program on 17 continuous years of probation, is.

  14. Self-imposed penalties are not for ACC members:

“Obviously we have learned of a situation here that we’re working through right now,” Golden told reporters in an opening statement. “I’m as surprised as all of you and gathering information as you are.”

Despite reports by The Miami Herald last August that Shapiro was planning on “dropping a bomb on UM,” Golden said he knew “absolutely nothing” in the way that these allegations were coming or that the NCAA would be on campus.

“I just found out,” Golden said. “Clearly there was some articles yesterday. But in terms of contact with NCAA, I haven’t had any. Our [athletic director] and president have. Other than that, it’s a joint effort, a cooperative effort. Once we learned of allegations, we want to make sure we’re doing our due diligence and cooperate with the NCAA on this.”

Why am I the only one thinking of the NCAA double dip into Ohio State’s remaining unferreted affairs? That was the first thing that came to mind with a 10. They could get the Death Pill if everything is put together. Was it associated with the “Sponsor” for their QB and lately found to have others involved? Or did they finlly round up all participating parties in the tatoo shop. Haven’t heard much aout them since the SI article quoting the former shop employee as witness to many players signing and using the shop. All these people in a place surveilled by the FBI for selling pot and NO ONE on the team bought any? Caca de Toro!!

Been waitin’ and haven’t grabbed the unofficial bait from osu lovers that’s supposed to make it go away. Haven’t heard the NCAA’s final investigation and ruling. Wasn’t that supposed to happen about now?

“Among the specific incidents, Shapiro or other sources say Hurtt, Hill, Stoutland, Pannunzio and Allen all delivered top-tier recruits to Shapiro’s home or luxury suite so the booster could make recruiting pitches to them. Among the players who were ushered to Shapiro while they were still in high school: Eventual Miami commitments Ray-Ray Armstrong, Dyron Dye and Olivier Vernon (prompted by Hurtt); eventual Florida commitments Andre Debose (Hurtt) and Matt Patchan (prompted by Stoutland and Pannunzio); eventual Georgia commitment Orson Charles (Pannunzio); and eventual Central Florida commitment Jeffrey Godfrey (Allen).”

Yowzah. Just read the whole story. I didn’t think it was going to be a Miami thing, because I couldn’t imagine anything amounting to a legit “10” at this point, so soon after the initial swirl of rumors. Oh, how wrong I was. That was intense.

Still expecting an Auburn bomb by the end of the month, though.

What could this mean for Orson? I mean he didn’t fall for the sleaze being thrown around by the U and came to UGA instead. What are the implications?

From what’s written, it looks like all that Orson was involved in was a trip to Shapiro’s house with UM coaches, and he showed him his closet with all his Miami game-worn jerseys. Doesn’t sound like anything that could get him into trouble.

Doesn’t sound like anything that could get him in trouble, BUT…we are a little over 2 weeks from kickoff. How long will it take the NCAA to make a decision? What else might they find? Sound anything like AJ Green about right now?

We did not need this. Hopefully it will get resolved.

If Orson Charles had the option to go to Miami and have access to all of those “benefits”, one has to wonder what UGA offered. I mean it only makes sense.

No one has to wonder, they clearly violated the rules. The really queer thing was the orchestrated suspension/reinstatement of ineligible cammy. Smells, even above the AubieCane cow piles. Of course that is just cheating, doesn’t even address the entire staff and fanbase condoning the thiggish dirty play of fairley the fairy. Total lack of ethics in that program, starting at the very top. Whether they ever get the death penalty or not, other schools should just drop them from their schedule. Bring TAMU in tomorrow as a replacement, hell bring The U itslf in, would be cleaner.
