This is amusing on a number of levels:
… Former Vol players won’t miss Dooley either after they say he turned them away from attending practices and being connected to the program.
“No one expects red carpet but we do expect to be able to go watch spring practice,” said former UT QB Erik Ainge, who hosts a radio show on Tennessee Sports Radio 1180. Ainge said one time Dooley reached out to him to be his “spin doctor” in the media. “I sat in front of his office with his secretary and we talked for 45 minutes. I knew everybody over there better than he did. His dry cleaning wasn’t done properly, so he was making them re-starch his drycleaning. And I just sat there for 45 minutes.
“He made it really hard. Tennessee fans are begging for you to give ’em something to get excited about. It’s as much a part of the culture here in East Tennessee as anything. You got Dollywood and UT. He made it really hard even for the die-hards to get on board.”
SOD evidently never learned the first rule of head coaching: It’s okay to be an asshole. As long as you’re winning.
It’s NOT okay to be an asshole even if you are winning. It’s just that people will overlook it if you’re winning. SOD got what he deserved and so did UT IMHO.

Maybe so, Mayor. But in an alternate universe, it sure would be fun to see how Ainge would get along with Corch.

Corch would say that Ainge is a “bad guy” and ban him from the locker room, practices and games. Ainge would scream bloody murder but as long as Corch was winning nobody else would care.

I thought corch was really sick health wise. Steve Austin.

Well, at least they have Dollywood still.

And they reported a 15% increase in attendance for 2012, which explains the drop in attendance at UTeefless games.

Precious must have not learned much from his father or his coach at Virginia about how to win friends and influence people. But knowing Momma had your back might have had something to do with it.

I had never heard that clip, thanks for sharing. I knew the woman was goofy but am convinced she is bat-shit crazy now. Thankfully we had Vince, the best part of that family.

Somebody has apparently never been to Pigeon Forge.

Thank you! I especially appreciate it when someone notices what happens when damage control efforts go wrong. And as Barbara said about Precious, I’ll be here not only through the weekend but also for the next 25 years…

Now you’ve got martinez on the staff. You may be looking back at SOD as ‘the good ole days’ this time next year.

So players from a fired staff didn’t approve of the then-current one? Shocking, that.
I think the last time this many cared what Singe thought, he was fessing up to a horrendous pill habit.

Man, I really wanted to like Dooley Junior as an SEC coach, and I was honestly hoping he’d go 11-1 every season (with the one loss to the Dawgs, of course). But every new bit of news coming out of Knoxville makes me wonder just what in the hell he was doing for three years.

Excellent choices for the first two things he did there! Legend is that there was a third thing but no one other than Barbara can remember it.

Of course! Now I remember. It was his monstrous buyout which couldn’t have been done without Derek, Derek’s agent and Mike Hamilton.

SOD did pretty well as UT’s HC. He got $1.8 for 3 years plus a $5 Mil buyout. That’s just under $10.5 Mil for coaching UT for 3 seasons (not even 3 full years). That’s more than CMR got for the same period. With any kind of tax planning SOD is set for life. He knew this was going to happen when he took the job–he did it for the $$.

It does make you wonder though. How is it Dooley the elder is such a generous, polite, well liked gentleman and his son, by all accounts, appears to be so much the opposite?

Maybe while Dooley the elder was coaching football, Barb was raising the kids. It’s also true that half of SOD’s genes came from mom. On the influence scoreboard, that works out to 75% mon, 25% dad.
