This is amusing on a number of levels:
… Former Vol players won’t miss Dooley either after they say he turned them away from attending practices and being connected to the program.
“No one expects red carpet but we do expect to be able to go watch spring practice,” said former UT QB Erik Ainge, who hosts a radio show on Tennessee Sports Radio 1180. Ainge said one time Dooley reached out to him to be his “spin doctor” in the media. “I sat in front of his office with his secretary and we talked for 45 minutes. I knew everybody over there better than he did. His dry cleaning wasn’t done properly, so he was making them re-starch his drycleaning. And I just sat there for 45 minutes.
“He made it really hard. Tennessee fans are begging for you to give ’em something to get excited about. It’s as much a part of the culture here in East Tennessee as anything. You got Dollywood and UT. He made it really hard even for the die-hards to get on board.”
SOD evidently never learned the first rule of head coaching: It’s okay to be an asshole. As long as you’re winning.
Get The Picture 
It’s NOT okay to be an asshole even if you are winning. It’s just that people will overlook it if you’re winning. SOD got what he deserved and so did UT IMHO.

Corch would say that Ainge is a “bad guy” and ban him from the locker room, practices and games. Ainge would scream bloody murder but as long as Corch was winning nobody else would care.

Man, I really wanted to like Dooley Junior as an SEC coach, and I was honestly hoping he’d go 11-1 every season (with the one loss to the Dawgs, of course). But every new bit of news coming out of Knoxville makes me wonder just what in the hell he was doing for three years.

SOD did pretty well as UT’s HC. He got $1.8 for 3 years plus a $5 Mil buyout. That’s just under $10.5 Mil for coaching UT for 3 seasons (not even 3 full years). That’s more than CMR got for the same period. With any kind of tax planning SOD is set for life. He knew this was going to happen when he took the job–he did it for the $$.

It does make you wonder though. How is it Dooley the elder is such a generous, polite, well liked gentleman and his son, by all accounts, appears to be so much the opposite?

Maybe while Dooley the elder was coaching football, Barb was raising the kids. It’s also true that half of SOD’s genes came from mom. On the influence scoreboard, that works out to 75% mon, 25% dad.
