It was hot and humid last Saturday in Orlando. Working the sidelines in the sun for several hours can take a lot out of a guy. There’s a cure for that, though.
The catch is that you probably shouldn’t go on television shortly after feeling more like a man in that way.
That being said, you’ve got to admire the “aw, screw it” attitude behind this response.
Questions about Spurrier’s on-air manner during the broadcast have been raised on local and national websites.
Asked if that was due to fatigue, Spurrier said, “I guess so.”
When asked if he was impaired in any way, he said, “I hope not.”
When asked if he had been drinking after the game, Spurrier replied, “Whether or not I have a few beers after every game for the past 29 years I don’t think I need to get into all that. Most coaches that I know we probably do have a few beers after ballgames after building up all week and so forth…”
Maybe Spurdog ought to get Brent Musburger to work The Steve Spurrier Show. A little knowing empathy never hurts.
Yet another reason to like the OBC.

That is outstanding. I’m surprised Todd was holding it together, I would’ve been cracking up.
I feel like I’d get along well with the OBC.

To be fair, he sounds almost as bad in his post UGA show as well http://www.gamecocksonline.com/allaccess/?media=404398.
Evil geniuses have to earn their mettle, and while admiting to a few beers after a game like they had Saturday (or two Saturdays ago) isn’t that big of a deal, his attitude about it only adds to his infamy.

They must have taken this one down too–it is just the test screen.

Skip ahead to 1:25 in the broadcast. There is no Grady College of Journalism on that campus to teach those people how to edit.

Does he share any of the beer with his players?

If so, it would be an NCAA violation!

Let’s go to Columbia next year. We can stand in line as the team walks from the bus to the stadium and invite Coach for a beer after the game.

I’m just glad he didn’t announce to Todd “I want to kiss you”.

He’s the biggest jerk in college football, and I don’t blame him for having some beers after the game (I would/do too), but I really don’t want to see him go out in genuine disgrace. He really does not seem to be enjoying this season (glad the Dawgs played a big part in that). I think he may choose to accelerate his own retirement by a few years. I would not be shocked if he called it quits when this season is over – and I would not blame him one bit. A royal pain in the Dawgs’ arse, but a worthy opponent for many, many years. The man has earned the right to do what he wants to do, but we all know how the media will latch onto something and create a circus out of something trivial.

He slurred much more and had double vision(not) after Bill Stanfil slobber-knocked him while sacking him 3 times in FU’s only loss the year that Spurrier won the Heisman. Of course he hates UGA.
He could have said: “Starkle, starkle little twink

Some theople pink I’m under the alcofluence of incohol. Jus’ tellum to go to their own jackyard and backoff.
The problem here is the airing of the program. They could have easily said he was too tired to tape and they would pick him up later. DIF has already alluded to the hypocracy of his example. We should empathize with his trying to fulfill his taping obligations when he possesses less cognitive powers to fulfill. It would be similar to me blogging after smoking a dooby. We know that doesn’t happen.

He is/was a fun guy to have a beer with, but I can tell you I have never seen him over indulge. That said, he seems to have slipped considerably, both mentally and physically, in the past 3 years. He needs to move on because he is tarnishing his reputation, he has stayed too long. Even SC fans should be able to see the slippage.
