Mark Richt seeks to distill fake juice from the real thing.
Georgia is returning to Vanderbilt for the first time since the 2011 game that featured a postgame confrontation between Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and Vanderbilt coach James Franklin.
“I don’t know how many guys are still around, but anything we can use to motivate, I’ll be all for that,” coach Mark Richt said. “Right now we’ve got to find a way to get better in blocking and tackling and doing the fundamental things that it takes to win.”
This has the potential not to end well.

This is setting up bad. I think we beat Vandy, but God forbid, if we don’t, I think Richt cans Grantham before the bye week.

This comment was written by someone who has no idea how Mark Richt works or how Georgia football works. If you haven’t read it already, don’t bother. It can only make you dumber. Mark Richt could barely be troubled to fire a coach, years after it became apparent that it was necessary. There is NO WAY that he fires a coach midseason.
As for the idea that the Grantham/Franklin feud will still fire up the Bulldogs, I’ve seen little evidence that anything regarding Grantham is getting the Bulldogs fired up these days.

Couple of quick points:
1. Willie was the best man in Richt’s wedding, so there was a personal loyalty there that doesn’t exist with Grantham.
2. In Richt’s first year, I’m almost positive they let a coach go in the middle of the season.
3. Grantham has twice been involved in embarrassing incidents to the university and Richt.
4. Grantham pissed away more talent last year on one team than Willie had in his 5 years as DC.
Grantham might not get canned midseason–in fact, I don’t think he will. But to say it won’t happen just because it didn’t happen with Willie is a leap I’d think twice about taking.
But hey, what do I know?

Keep in mind that with regard to #4, Grantham had a large hand in getting most of that talent to Athens in the first place. He’s by far the best recruiting DC Richt’s had.

Garner’s already gone and if Grantham goes, there will have to be some major attention paid to fashioning a defensive staff that can attract the talent to Athens.

I think one of the reasons CMR let Garner leave w/o a fight was that Grantham had taken over as the bell cow in defensive recruiting.

Well we’ll see how it all plays out. I don’t think that Grantham is going to get canned this year, mostly because I think we can win the rest of our games. But if we lose again because the defense is awful, or if Grantham has another incident, it would not shock me one bit if Richt cuts bait.

I wouldn’t make that point too much given the number of DB’s that Willie has playing in the NFL. He sucked as a DC but his midgets could ball.

At least he seems to acknowledge the real issues with fundamentals etc, instead of “work hard & git butter”. I still believe that if Ray Goff had a Bud Foster or Chavis, he might still be coaching. I wonder what happened to the South Carolina coach before Ellis Johnson? Man , we used to have some low scoring games back then.

Which is my point exactly. If Larry wasn’t already dead, this season would kill him. And quite frankly, after what we’ve seen the last two weeks a loss in Nashville will not be surprising. Extremely disappointing and unbelievably frustrating, yes. It might even provoke an aneurysm but it won’t be a surprise. Just typing that made me throw up a little.

When told of Mark’s pre-planned pep talk fake juice which inevitably will lead to weak sauce such as fistfights with helmets on sometime during pre-game, “That wasn’t right,” James Franklin said. “It was a bad deal. And it will forever be in the mind of James Franklin and in the mind of our football team. So, we’ll handle it. And it’s going to be a big deal. Even more so since it’s an 11:00 a.m. tip off and most of our capacity crowd is going to be hungry and mad because the line at Pancake Pantry was too long and who wants a breakfast from P.F. Changs?”
Given their recently developed close working relationship with Nashville law enforcement authorities, James also asked non-Athletic Director David Williams to make sure a restraining order keeping Todd at least 53.33 yards away from James is in place. The last thing James wants is a separated shoulder like his brother from another mother.

Nice try Homer. The injury bug isn’t the reason the defense is horrible and the special teams is mediocre at best.

The injurys on offense effect the defense…Consider that teams like Tennessee and Mo. will take less chances on downs 1 thru 3, knowing if it’s close they can gamble on fourth because even if they don’t get the first down… It’s a lot harder to gamble when you know it means giving the other theam an easy 7..and thats not the case now. the Georgia offense will not certainly score as they did the first part of the season. What this team needs is it’s health back on offense…and another week or so of letting the replacements learn how to work with AM and vise versa.

I agree to an extent but the defense was really bad before the injury bug hit the offense.
On top of that, you could argue that the defense has had fewer injuries than normal so far. If we’re going to whine and whine about the injuries on offense, we need to recognize that we’ve been fortunate in that regard on defense.
And the special teams being mediocre has nothing to do with the injuries.

When Franklin says in his presser, “I think Todd Grantham’s done a great job this year” be sure to listen to his inflection of the word “great” and know it was not meant as a compliment. The eyes rolling were a tell too.
