… the more Steve Spurrier remains a dick.
You know what else the OBC can say? Since he’s been at South Carolina, he’s won as many SEC championships as UT’s coaches have, too.
… the more Steve Spurrier remains a dick.
Spurrier: "Will be the 14th time I've coached in Neyland Stadium. … I've coached there more than some of their head coaches."
— Josh Kendall (@JoshTheAthletic) October 17, 2013
You know what else the OBC can say? Since he’s been at South Carolina, he’s won as many SEC championships as UT’s coaches have, too.
“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Ha! I must say, Spurrier’s zings are a lot funnier to me when we own a win over him.

He is the Paul Finebaum of coaching personalities

He definitely has more SEC wins in Neyland than their last three coaches combined.

I do admire Spurrier for the fact that he doesn’t bore us with coach speak. I LOVE Mark Richt. I hope he’s still coaching Georgia when he has to sit in a wheelchair and take oxygen. But I can pretty much dictate every press conference he’ll have between now and then. And he’s not unique in this. We know, almost precisely, what most coaches will say days, weeks and even months before the words actually proceed from their mouths. Spurrier, not so much. The entertainment value alone is priceless. We all still remember free shoes university don’t we?

Agree 100%. For my money, college football will be worse off whenever SOS finally hangs up the visor.

I’ll take “bitchy posts about Spurrier after the OBC had a legitimately funny line” for $100, Alex. Gee, from the sentiment, I can almost imagine that you might be worried about South Carolina winning the East even after Georgia beat them in September.

Spurrier gets to mock Tennessee, but I can’t mock Spurrier? That hardly seems fair. 😉

But you’re going to mock him for a good zinger directed at Lane Kiffin? What self-respecting SEC fan is going to get in the way of that? I much prefer mocking him for his suggestion that cross-divisional games not count.
By the way, this is a nice little collection of Spurrier quotes. The one about Dabo at the end is priceless.

Spurrier coached the worst East team ever to make the SEC Championship Game. That counts for something, doesn’t it?
