The 2007 season has always been my benchmark for the wild and crazy side of college football (not coincidently, it’s my favorite season of all those I’ve followed closely). But I can’t remember a day in 2007 that had as much craziness packed into it as the carnage we witnessed yesterday. Five ranked SEC teams took hits yesterday, three of those losses coming at the hands of unranked opponents. (Nationally, add to that numbers 3, 8 and 9 going down, and you’ve got as chaotic a week as imaginable.)
My team was one of those that came out on the receiving end of the bloodshed, so there’s that. But if you’re an Auburn or Missouri fan, you’ve got to be one ecstatic camper right now. It’s mid-October and your teams control their destinies to make it to the SECCG. Malzahn and Pinkel have to be the runaway candidates for conference coach of the year right now.
I wonder if I ought to compose this week’s SEC Power Poll ballot by putting every team but Alabama and Kentucky in a hat and drawing names randomly. I’ve had crazier ideas.
I have visions that Malzahn is sitting around this morning doing his best Littlefinger impression from Game of Thrones saying: “Chaos, isn’t a pit, chaos a ladder, many who try to climb it, fall never to try again, the fall breaks them, and some given a chance to climb refuse, they cling to the realm, or the gods, or love, illusions…only the ladder is real…the climb is all there is.”

At the beginning of the season I read: “Gary Pinkel is down to his last season at Missouri.” Who knew?

“Who knew?” That Mr. Pink would be at Southern Cal next year

Mizzou ain’t going to Atlanta. They still have to get past South Carolina, Tennessee and aTm at home and Ole Miss on the road. I’m saying right now they lose at least 2 of those games, maybe more. Depending on how the tiebreakers shake out, it could be any of 6 teams winning the East. Despite what I have written on this blog the last few days, I think UGA is still in it if the Dawgs can get some people healthy and fix the problems in the kicking game.

Well. That is what makes CF interesting to me! Still rooting for the Dawgs to beat FL. It is hard to imagine a team looking worse than the Dawgs at the moment, but just picture the Gators. They stink.

Yeah, the WLOCP is going to be interesting. Someone on here aptly compared it to Italy invading France.

More like Moldavia invading Slovenia.

Pat, the Gators may be worse off than us…remains to be seen, but they got beat, as we did, by a very good Missouri football team playing at home…not sure how that compares to losing to Vandy, but I have some idea.

What I saw yesterday:
A hard headed coach who continues to think ST play is not that big of a deal= LOSS
A Defensive minded HC with no offense=LOSS
An offensive genius outsmarting only himself at the end=LOSS
A hat with an even balanced team on the road=LOSS
A tem with lights outs O and no D= LOSS

This why the SEC should never go to a 9 League game season.
The rest of the country yearns for the SEC to eliminate itself.

At least we are entertaining to watch. Can you imagine having to root for the Gators every week? UF has 45 total passing td’s the past four seasons. Murray threw for 37 td’s last season alone. I don’t care that UF went 11-2 last season, the Gators were still the most boring team in all of college football. thank God we don’t have Muschamp as a coach. Its insanity the way he trots the same offense out there every week.

We WERE entertaining to watch. Yesterday on offense was, well, Big Dumb Will Muschamp Football-esque. Only instead of Driskel or Murhphy, we had Aaron Murray handing the ball off until faced with an obvious passing down situation for far too long in the game.

Clemson getting slaughtered didn’t make us look too good either.

Yeah, I noticed that…does that mean we would lose to FSU by 62?

If the team that played Vanderbilt yesterday played FSU we might lose by 62. FSU is the real deal. And we’re…well…not.

No, Maryland has a better defense (shut out WVA). And probably better special teams.

With all the upheaval yesterday in the SEC, look at Alabama. Same ole boring ranked #1 Alabama. Some times its good to just be plain ole boring.

It’s fun watching a solid coaching staff work. Thanks Bama. They get better every week. Simply solid in all phases of the game. Their ST are the best. Auburn’s HC & OC may be the Broncos of the SEC. Class of the SEC reside in the state of Alabama. Iron Bowl will be packed this year. What a turn around at Auburn.

How did FSU and Auburn take those two QBs and make them so good in their offense? Do not know about their RBs, but they can put the points on the board and light it up like a pinball machine. Fun to watch them play.

Tre Mason has been at Auburn for about 10 years :)….nobody knew what to do with him till Malzahn came back…very much like JJ Green.
Bama has improved dramatically since the first game…especially on the defensive side…and you are right, it is a great thing to watch that coaching staff at work. Goddammit!!!!!!!!

Playing Kentucky and Arkansas will make any defense look improved.
I remain unconvinced Bama is back to the level they were last year. They’re just enjoying the fruits of the easiest SEC schedule of any contending team.

FSU is a complete team. Offense. Defense. Special Teams. Well coached.
I wish I could say the same about the Dawgs.
