Chad Morris is burning the candle at both ends trying to figure out what he’s going to see in Athens in five days.
One thing Clemson is expecting is lots of press coverage.
“With a new quarterback (Stoudt), we’re expecting them to bring pressure and press us on the outside,” Morris said. “It’s not going to be anything that is going to be revolutionary, that we haven’t seen before.”
“The way we look at it is, if they press us, then they don’t think we can get off of it,” Clemson receiver Charone Peake said. “We have to go out there and prove it to them.”
If that’s the case, there’s really no point in reviewing last year’s Georgia defensive tape. That was an alien concept.

The most common coverages called by Grantham were Cover 3 and Quarters. You do not jam the outside receivers those coverages. The CBs wouldn’t get back to their zones in time if they were that close to the line of scrimmage. The real thing to gleen from Morris’ statement is that he is expecting more Cover 0 and Cover 2.

But when it’s 3rd and 6, and the corner is backed off 12-13 yards, you’ve just given the offense a hot route and 1st down. Same with 3rd and 3, when our ILB’s would be 7 yards back and still hang back on their heels. It was almost an automatic first down in both examples, and those situations happened a lot.
Whether it was a bad call or bad coaching, it absolutely sucked. I hated Grantham’s defense. And I’m thankful this one will be very different. It won’t be as similar as some think, IMO. Some of the core structure will be the same, like the 3-4, but I suspect that’s about it.
There’s a time to lay back. And I believe Pruitt knows when, and when not, to do that.

I wasn’t saying they were the right or wrong calls to make, but I completely sympathize with your frustration with the results. I was just trying to explain why you didn’t see much press coverage out of Grantham’s defense.
