I’m amused that even the computer formulas get sucked into preseason rankings bias.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
So it is true then…bullshit in, bullshit out.

Using the word computer immediately validates the rankings for most people. But the truth is a subjective person created the formula for the computer to calculate. In other words, just another poll.

You and Scorp both nailed it. I am embarrassed that it took me years of missing on football bets because I felt a computer could make objective calculations to a degree I wasn’t capable of. Turns out I was more capable than the techie nerd that had to begin with a bias of some sort and that made his computer’s output less reliable than my old brain. Damn, doing much better on my own. I do pay attention to PS’s computer because he has a solid set of inputs with all the data he compiles. I subscribe to his “In the Press Box” picks each week to identify games to focus on for cash opportunities.
Still don’t see how this cannot be compensated for if there is a baseline start point and enough interaction, it would take several weeks to build credible overlays but should be pretty good late in the year.

Gotta rent the film “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues” made in the 90s (book published mid 70s). “Hippie” film with a bunch of good stars. Your lead reminded.
