I’ve got a fascinating tidbit to share with you that comes from GTP commenter Granthams replacement:
In 2012 UGA had signed 84 players from 2009-2012 during the oversigning period. Bama signed 103. This time around UGA has signed 102 from 2012-2015, Bama has signed 102 as well.
It’s the below the waterline stuff like this that lets a program’s progress sneak up on you.
Weren’t we down to less than 70 scholarship players for the 2012 SECCG?

Yes. As I recall it was 68 scholarship athletes at that point.
Yesterday’s USA Today article on Georgia was very balanced in its approach to some of the handicaps UGA has voluntarily operated under.

It doesn’t happen often, but this is a case where a new rule (25 signing limit) fell in line with the Georgia Way. The new domestic violence policy should also help UGA. If we could just get a league wide drug policy (one can dream).

I guess in the SEC you can legislate mortality.

It is truly remarkable. We did some of that to ourselves, and one will never really know all behind it. But, this is why I believe Richt’s best years are ahead of him. The recruiting under Pruitt, the IPF, Eason, the earlier offers, the commitment to Special Teams, signing full classes. It’s coming together much better now. Excited about Saturday and the years ahead.

Good post and I agree. I expressed it another way below.

With a critical game coming up this weekend, why kick this old saw around the block again? Is this the only criticism of Richt that can be validated by the anti-Richt crowd so now we have to watch those fans parade around the block with his effigy in a victory dance?
Equal time: lets go back and review all the crap that the AD and B-M did to obstruct Richt’s path. Many things have been validated from that period that support Richt, but there’s really no point in flaunting it toward the rest of the fan base who were wrong in their reasoning for attacks on the coaching staff.

Practicing in the rain may be an advantage this weekend. 🙂

Looks like you may be right, the forecast has gotten gloomier and more depressing as the week has gone along. Could have a significant impact on STs where both Bama’s punting, and UGA’s FG edges are neutralized. Could help our passing game though.

Bring out the tennis shoes. Let’s have a ballet practice.
Mud Dawgs! Just what the gods ordered. Turns out our AD may be a seer what with the delay on the IPF.

The Georgia team this year is different from the teams of previous years, both defense and offense coordinators are different, red shirting is different, University President is different, money is different, S&C coach is different, and except for a few most of the athletes are different. Here hoping for a different result. GooooooooooooooooooDawgs. It’s always great to be a Georgia Bulldawg.

We’ve actually done much better than the above sentence implies. Not only did we sign an equal amount of recruits, but we added players like Ganus and Lambert as transfers. Jurkovic was snapped up when tOSU screwed him out of a scholly. Blankenship was a gray shirt. And we’ve seemingly always done well with walk-ons like FBs Moore and Payne.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to say we’ve gone from being the worst at roster management just a couple years ago, to being arguably the best now.
