You think Mark Richt has burned up good will before?

I can’t think of a more guaranteed way to tarnish a legacy than to do this.

Yeah……no. Richt seems to be very tolerant compared to the average person of that level of devoutness, but this would be icky.

Eh, screw it, Schottenheimer for comptroller!

Richt would be a terrible politician. e’s actually honest, straight forward, and a decent human being. He wouldn’t last 5 seconds.

Personally, while I don’t think he’s a politician of any stripe, if you had to pigeon-hole CMR, I’d tend to think that he’s more of a Jimmy Carter Democrat. Hard to be as conversant with the Gospels as he seems to be AND be a “Fuck the poor!” kinda guy.

So is your opinion that anyone other than a “Jimmy Carter Democrat” has a “Fuck the poor!” attitude? I believe your generalization is showing.

No. I’m saying that the Republican party and its media outlets: Fox News and talk radio currently have a “Fuck the poor!” attitude. Which, as I best understand it, wasn’t Jesus’ position.

Just listen to Stuart Varney and the other employees of Fox. When Jon talks cover your ears and make noises. What is important is what comes out of the Fox News people’s mouths.

If Hillary Clinton took a video of Ted Cruz fucking a goat would you say well, how do we trust that, after all, its Hillary? Well, you might if you’re fucking stupid.

I sure do not go to this sports website to see videos of Obama or Stewart. How does Derek propose to pay for more free “entitlements” when we are running the biggest deficit ever already?

Oh, for chrissakes, that old saw about the “deficit” and “entitlements”…the one that only ever comes out when a Democrat is busy reducing the deficit–evidence of which is readily available if you actually look at such things–instead of increasing it by spending shit-tons on the military/war effort.

Please do come with something better than that. Maybe you can bitch about how “happy holidays” does mortal cultural harm to “christmas” or something.

If something isn’t done to reduce federal spending and cut the debt, it is just a matter of when will this house of cards come tumbling down.

It should be a bi-partisan issue. It is a national security issue.

But it’s still there, making the national debt grow larger every year.

I get it that decelerating deficits are better than accelerating deficits, but they are still deficits that add to the debt. History would show that there will be shocks to the system and these always seem to increase debt as opposed to decreasing debt. Granted I do not work for the Financial Times, but the higher the debt the larger amount of taxes are lost in interest payments. It does not make one a political outlier to be concerned about the amount of debt we have accumulated.

And i would say to you that the vast majority of poor people in this country go to work everyday. Many work two jobs. The problem are these narratives:

            the poor are lazy
            the poor deserve their fate
the poor lack a “richness of spirit” to quote Fox News’ Stuart Varney
the poor are moochers, leeches, etc…

Nobody is for a free ride. Those who claim that programs that assist people in need are wasteful and unnecessary have a “fuck the poor” attitude that is decidedly anti-Christian.

The people who promote these narratives are of the Grover Norquist variety who said 30 years ago that the goal was to make government small enough to drag it in the bathroom and drown it. I would ask you. How would our parents and grandparents fair in such a world? How would our children? The American ideal is that anybody can make it. If only those who start off rich can make it, we cease to be what we claim to be.

Personally, I’m sick and tired of rich people sending poor folk’s kids off to die in their wars while claiming that its unfair for them to be asked to pay more. What the fuck would they have if poor kids weren’t grabbing a rifle and manning a post? They’d be overrun by a mob of fucking terrorists is where they’d be. So I say, pick up the check asshole! You (and that includes me btw) have the most to gain and the most to lose so quit your bitching and pay it forward so that some poor kid (like I was) can make it (like I did) too.

The worst thing about this idea is that it brings politics smack dab into the middle of this forum. I do sports talk when I want to get away from politics and vice versa. Richt tried to pay disposed assistants out of his pocket so yea I could see him trying to expand Medicaid.

As someone whose day job is all about politics, my reaction to mixing it with college football is exactly the same as it has always been: Noooooooo!

I’ve always figured Richt’s politics are different from my own, just as it seems his brand of Christianity is different from my own. But I really appreciate him keeping it to himself. Being part of the Dawg Nation is one of the few things that can bridge the blue-red gap, and it ought to stay that way.

Heck, I’d vote for him for President. If he won 74% of his battles vs America’s enemies as Commander in Chief, it would be an improvement over the 0% being recorded by the Lead From Behind gang. Granted, not as good as Saban might do, or Trump, or Irving Myers, but a huge improvement, still.

As for climate change (aka: the greatest threat to our national security),
he could build a wall along the border. No, wait, wrong threat, and a very minor one, at that. Maybe an indoor practice facility covering the North American Continent? No, wait, he couldn’t get that approved without SecDef Jeremy Pruitt.

Offer McGarity a position as head of the IRS and then sic Trey Gowdy on him. Then abolish the IRS and announce that the decision for him to leave was mutual.

    And send Schotty abroad.
