Per Schlabach,
Richt, 55, is expected to receive a contract similar to the one he had at Georgia, the sources said. The Bulldogs paid him $4 million per season and they will still owe him a $4.1 million buyout, regardless of what he earns at Miami.
Bet there are a few vindictive boosters who give McGarity a hard time about honoring an unsigned contract.

Please, nothing requires that that contract be signed to be enforceable – they agreed on the material terms and there has been partial performance for at least the past 8 or 9 months. The material terms of the parties’ agreement and intentions are memorialized in the writing, regardless of whether it was signed. McGarity trying to portray himself as the font of virtue for honoring the unsigned contract is just more bs – if he hadn’t, Richt could’ve sued his ass and very likely won.
LikeLike
Very valid points plus I believe it’s fairly routine for both parties to engage in some type of letter of intent that stipulates the key points and acts as a guide until the formal contract is reviewed and signed by all parties. To his credit McGarity has already gone on the record as saying he would honor the terms of the agreement, so it’s not even worth discussing.
The thing I’ve always wondered about is why Richt never signed this contract? He seems like a fairly reasonable guy who doesn’t like to make waves, so it really makes me wonder why he never signed this agreement. For that matter, did he ever sign his prior contract? Senator, do you or anyone else know the reason for the impasse?

my thought on it, which could be completely inaccurate, was that once the contracts were countersigned, then the contents would be available for an open records request. That would reveal the buy outs, and all the other nitty gritty details. By agreeing to the contract, but not signing it, the old contract is the only one that is available upon request.
no idea why they wouldn’t want people to be able to see it, but that’s been my assumption on their rationale. basically, McGarity saying they would honor it is lip service, because it was never going to be signed.

I have to say……… I LOVE THIS. I LOVE ALL OF THIS.
1) I am so happy CMR landed a great job so fast. Super happy for him. He’s used to having to coach with crap support and scraps for money, so Miami will be no problemo.
2) The ACC is so much better for CMR. It suits his personality and level of tenacity.
3) CMR is a great recruiter. Him being at Miami is going to hurt Florida. That is most definitely a couple of recruits per year that Florida loses. Being way down in Miami, I actually don’t think he’ll hurt Georgia’s recruiting all that much.
4) CMR still gets to bitch slap Tech every year. Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
5) McGarity has massive egg on his face. Hahahahahahahaha.
6) If CMR wins a national title with Miami…… holy shit……… hahahaha…. BM will have to be CLEANED OUT. The inbred cronies in that place will finally have to go. That would be spectacular!
7) If Eason goes to Miami, so what? The kid likes CMR. Why shouldn’t he get to go play for him? One of the most bullshit rules in the NCAA is that a coach can change schools, quit, get fired, go the NFL, whatever and the kids who wanted to play for him have to sit out a year if they want to follow or go elsewhere. Thank god this happened before Eason officially signed with Georgia. If Eason signs with UGA, that’s wonderful, but don’t expect a kid to make choices BAD FOR HIM just because you want him to win games for your (and my) favorite team.
8) If something blows up and we lose Smart………….. hahahahahahaha even more awesome because then McGarity pretty much needs to be fired ON THE SPOT for incompetence. Another huge win. Then maybe we can go get Gary Patterson or some other superior hire anyway.
I love everything about this. This is WIN-WIN in the extreme.

Number 8: No. That is the opposite of a win. No-one, much less fans, benefits from it. If McGarity gets the axe, let it be for a different reason.

Why? I think there are better hires out there.
Someone in another thread noted that the UGA job is the #1 job out there right now (especially since USC apparently just laid down and died instantly).
We had the opportunity for a Saban->Bama Meyer->OSU type hire.
We could have landed someone huge. Going with Smart was settling for the easy way out. He might end up being awesome, and if we get him I admit I’m guardedly excited, but it is still the wussy move.
I’m convinced McGarity has no ethics, no balls, no guts, no integrity, and minimal brains. The rest of BM is the same, and the only thing they have in excess are extra chromosomes. That’s why he went with this scrub, easy hire. If it blows up in their faces, at least the house cleaning will be something to enjoy.

I really like and respect CMR. He did great things for our program. But his laid back southern gentleman attitude doesn’t combo with the useless, lazy, unhelpful, stonewalling joke show at BM. UGA needs a coach who takes no bullshit, gives no fucks, and will rage at BM if he doesn’t get what he wants (ala Pruitt).
It is clear the spineless incompetents at BM are too weak to stand up to direct pressure. That’s why Pruitt was the first coach to make real progress on that front. But they sure as hell resented him for it.
So please, try again with the Richtite stuff.

Wow, you really haven’t been around very long if you’re calling Muckbeast a Richtite. Dude, you look more and more stupid with every post. You live in the extremes. Blind hatred of Richt and blind loyalty to McG. When you mature a bit you might learn everything isn’t always an absolute. There are a large number of us who were astute enough to realize that while Richt had plateaued here and a separation was in both parties best interest, he was only a symptom of a much larger disease. I would have been ok with another year, but believed it was inevitable. I’m damn sure not going to rejoice and gloat about it every chance I get like some braying jackass either. And McGarity is a bigger symptom, but still not the root cause. I don’t always agree with Muck, but he is spot on about the problems that plague our athletic program. The Senator has been telling us this for a while now. This is not a competition between those who wanted Richt gone and those who strongly believed he could still win championships, but you seem to want to make it that way. I believe that with a great number of us, the margin of stay or go was pretty thin. Most of us, regardless of which side of the coin we fell on, feel pretty damn bummed about the vents of this week. I surely do, and am happy that Mark has quickly found another place to coach and wish him nothing but the best. That’s that grey area I was alluding to, you should research it. And people here still have the right to love and support Mark Richt. You’re on the side that got what you wanted, so what in the hell makes you need to be such a flaming dick to anyone upset with the decision that just wants to vent about it? Even though the above remark was way off target, it was a bullshit, douchebag, pussy remark and has no place here anymore. It’s over with. You are going to be the poster that drives the registration the Senator warned us about. I’ve been around long enough to have met countless people like you, so you’re not that hard to identify. If you respond with catty name calling you have forfeited the win that the other guy gave you.
The Richt debate is over. You will never live one more second in fear that he will be wearing a headset on a Georgia sideline, so you can let it go. If you don’t you appear that the Richt issue was not about the Georgia program ‘s future but instead is a personal vendetta.
