Daddy, what time is the SECCG over?

Seth Emerson updates Georgia’s coaching situation.

Basically, if we haven’t heard something by midday tomorrow, it’s time to start wondering what’s really going on.

What UGA might have a problem gosh based on past performance we have at least a 50/50 chance Kirby leaves us at the alter. All these young fans will get to experience the same well oiled machine that got us Goff and Donnan.

To use Game of Thrones vernacular if we don’t close the deal with Smart, McGarity’s head may end up on a spike on Sanford bridge.

    • I think everyone can relax on this issue. Kirby (and his entire family) spent last night in Athens (local downtown Hotel). The deal is on.

      • There’s no way they just walked into a hotel in downtown Athens last night without being recognized. I would be VERY surprised they did anything other than stay somewhere like the St. Regis or Ritz in Buckhead where they could blend in with the rest of the crowd, go to a suite, and hunker down while Sexton works out the final details of the deal with UGA.

It’s the “other matters” that Seth mentioned that will be interesting. How much is McGoority going to give?

  3. I’d give it till Monday. Sunday or Monday is when we’ve been told early on we should hear something.

If McGarity et al end up screwing this up beyond recognition, and UGA is screwed at the end of this thing, will you be man enough to say “You know, maybe the Senator was right, and keeping Richt would’ve been better than trusting Butts-Mehre with this?” or will you just burrow in further?

Nevermind, don’t answer. We all know.

      • If this gets screwed up, you’re all going to get your wish about the Butts-Mehre house cleaning, so I believe it will work in Georgia’s favor either way. Richt needed to go. Question is whether anyone else needs to in order to get this going in the right direction. I would be shocked if it falls through. Expecting an announcement Monday.

Umm… that’s not what I said. Although if McGarity screws the pooch with Kirby, it may well turn out that way.

So what could get screwed up? Kirby is the coach and it will be an upgrade. Bunch of damn whiny bitches on here. Good grief I have never seen a fan base so paralyzed by the thought of change.

Kirby may end up not taking the job. That’s the potential screw-up. If that happens McGarity is gone. Kirby and his people understand that so Kirby is in a stronger negotiating position. Therefor McGarity is on the horns of a dilemma. Either give Kirby everything he wants (which he may not be allowed to do by his superiors) or walk the plank when Kirby backs out. Then the whole hiring process gets all messed up and we could end up with Ray Goff 2. That’s what could get screwed up.

Also the most defeatist I’ve ever heard a head coach. McElwain may as well just say “We have no shot.”

Once Bama wins, and the Gators get waxed in a bowl game, how quickly do Fla fans turn on their coach?

Someone explain to me, why trying to bring Kiiffin with him is a bad idea. Recruits love him and his new lease on life seems to have reigned him in a bit. “The Ga.Way” isn’t gonna like it, but who gives a shit. Smart has them so invested at this point, that there’s no way they let him walk. He needs to get everything he wants (budget, staff decisions, non meddling) in writing and get going immediately. Coaching Alabame thru the playoff is a horrible idea btw. This recruiting class is strong and needs to be held together and possibly improved upon. And I know putting your trust in an 18 yr old QB is a dangerous proposition. But as we just witnessed, football is the same on all levels. If you don’t have a QB, you’re not gonna compete for a championship. And trust me, we don’t have one on the roster presently.

And the Gators lead the Crimson Tide 7-2 going into the 4th inning . . ., oh never mind.

  9. Boom seems like an asshat, but his Florida defense is sure hanging with Bama in the first half, and that is his defense.

    Like

    • I said it before, I have no doubt about his ability to coach defense. Deeper issues at Auburn. His sideline antics are what concern me. I like a DC with fire but costing your team points by losing your shit like that? Ridiculous.

      Like

      • Yeah, but Florida was almost a dumpster fire when Boom took over. Now Old Yeller is winning with his recruits and his coaching on defense. I do not want to see Boom at USEe.

Agree, especially if he hires a capable OC.

On a side note, I think the Gators’ love affair with Jim Bob Duggar is gonna end once these Muschamp guys graduate or leave for the NFL

I would love to see UF regress over the next few years as Boom’s players move on and The Beaver’s players take the field…

Whats his blow-up to flag ratio? For as animated as he is, I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen him get a flag.

It’s not just a matter of him getting a flag directly, but how many more flags get thrown on his team because the refs hate hearing his outbursts. Nobody holds a grudge like SEC referees.

I’d bet that no one from Georgia has even talked with Kirby yet. Sexton prob told McGarity that Kirby would be interested, everything in the media simply based on that little nugget. If anyone from Georgia talks with Kirby, it won’t be until tomorrow. And, it probably will fall through and McGarity will be screwed.

If he rolls up in a red Ford F150 4×4 pickup, then it could be good.
Could drive up and tell McGarity I can not do this as long as Tarkenton is running the program at UGA.
Tarkenton and company are goibg to continue hurt the Dawgs. They are not liked by coaches in other SEC teams.
His words about Pruitt will have a long term negative impact on team coaches. One of the dumbest arrogant comment made in public.

Clearly McElwain just isn’t very good at coaching. We had nearly twice as many yards vs. Alabama as UF had. Schotty > McElwain

Either way Treon Harris did better against us than our guy did against UF. And he wasn’t substantially worse than our guy versus Alabama. The funny part is that McElwain is a first-year coach and Harris was actually the backup–not really the same as being a coach who specializes in QBs but can’t find a decent one, out of all the ones he recruited, in year 15.

Then there’s the Heisman candidate on the undefeated team from up the road apiece that we never had a chance with because he didn’t like our offense. Funny how getting players who can play is part of the job, but maybe I just jest.

I thought that Vince Dooley should have been fired in 1981 when Clemson won a natty with Athens’ own Homer Jordan at qb. But in his 18th year no one cared that Vince didn’t have a decent qb. I guess things just never change.

I’m not a fan of Chili but he’s kinda on for this. Other various sites have said essentially Kirby is a done deal. Still uncertainty of asst coaches. ADGM was neutered by a couple of big boosters. He wanted Mullen, they said Kirby or no more money. But how McG is still holding out with some negotiations is interesting.

This is not a chilidawgnv comment, ok? It is not good for any college program for contributors to dictate to the AD whom to hire.
If we are going to pay an AD a salary in the half million range he needs to have the authority to hire whom he wants.

They are acting as bad as chili did and seem to feel like a certain amount of retribution has to be exacted. Damn we all want the dawgs to win. Right? Things turned out ok for Richt. Hall can stop fighting for him now.

Moving on will happen when we have another coach. And by that, I mean signed on the dotted line, not out of the mouths of kids. I kinda like knowing wtf our coach is, as important as that is for recruiting, and all. Want my Dawn fandom to heal from the screwing over of CMR? Try hiring a damn staff, not looking like a bunch of idiots for firing a great coach, then twisting in the wind (for what looks to be possibly a month longer, now.. yay). Oh yeah, and last, but certainly not least, chilisquirt sucks, and this place was a lot better before her sand-filled NV snatch showed up spewing incessant negativity.

Did anyone else notice that Georgia State not only beat Georgia Southern in a rout, but gained close to 500 yards on the Eagles and held them to just over 200 yards total offense?

I’d dare say I never thought we’d be a lesser foe than Georgia State, but danged if I’m not thinking it now. Wonder if Richt made the Bauta decision on purpose so he could get out and get to Miami…those decisions (Goldens firing and Bauta QB leading into WLOCP) happened during the same week. Just what’s going on in BM that’s making this happen???

Kirby, it’s time to close that chapter of your life. I wouldn’t care what Nick wanted. You’ve wanted this job since the day your playing days were over and made it a point to run around South Georgia telling everyone the same. If this recruiting class falls apart because you’re spending the next month in T-town and you win another ring, no one in Georgia is going to remember that you got a ring. What they will remember is seeing Jacob Eason with an orange and blue helmet on. You don’t want that … do you?
