East Carolina fired its coach yesterday. He’s an alum who’s enjoyed decent success there, but suffered through a losing season this year fueled in part by injuries. Anyway, the AD who made the call met with the players. For a little while, that is…

The reason people like Bobby Petrino keep getting coaching jobs is because there are people like Bobby Petrino running athletic departments.
College athletics is now run by bean counters with ears to the wind, not old coaches. Players will never understand or accept that bottom line every decision is a business decision. Losing season = big bucks alumni howling=”you’re fired!” No AD can stand up to it.

I feel badly for these players and the UGA team as well. Yes, their are on scholarship and should understand its a business and all that. But they are young men with dreams and hopes just like the rest of us. They come play for the school and often the head coach. When the coach gets fired they are often the last to know and get wind of it on the internet or social media, and are all to often blamed. Its just a tough thing for them to go thru I’m sure.

Agreed the leaders of athletics departments should know social skills.

Too bad a pink slip and security detail wasn’t waiting for him when he got back to the office. These AD’s definitely need to be taken down a few notches.

Upon reflection, if I had 85 girlfriends, yeah, I’d probably break up with them via text, though they’d likely still hear it through Twitter first.

Anyone watching the wku game? Really like ty heltons aggressive play calling hope we get him!!! They drove down the field with 1.5 minutes to score b4 halftime and tie the game… Will be nice to have that mentality and not the take a knee while down mentality

I can’t stop laughing. I know it’s not funny to the ECU players, and I don’t mean to diminish their plight over losing their coach and the lousy process employed therewith. But there is something humorous about the thought the AD tucking tail and retreating. Maybe he gets home and finds a pitcher of Magaritas with note from his wife that she and the kids are leaving and taking up with the Receivers Coach.

Hope when his time is up it’s done via text from the school president. Probably the last time he takes questions in a meeting.

What a spineless AD. Although the way college students are the days, maybe the AD was afraid that if he answered their questions accurately, he would be accused of hate speech and violating the student athletes’ safe space.
