If you’re a real masochist, do yourself a favor and check out William McFadden’s Twitter feed from yesterday, where he painstakingly breaks down film from last year’s Ole Miss game. It’s brutal. (It was so bad, I actually forgot that Georgia was ranked twelfth going into the game, higher than Ole Miss.)
There isn’t an area on the team that didn’t have its share of breakdowns, although in terms of consistency, it’s hard to say which of the secondary or the offensive line were worse.
Eason did not play well, but when you’re getting as little support from the line as this,
it’s not hard to understand why his mechanics were iffy and his ability to read the field suffered. Even when he got it right, his receivers often didn’t.
That being said, the two most sickening moments on the day were both on the defensive side of the ball, this,
and this.
Smith got caught with his hand in the cookie jar on that one play. Briscoe was toasted all day.
All in all, it’s about as poorly prepared as I’ve seen the Dawgs look. They earned every bit of that 45-0 deficit.

That game was pure embarrassment. We weren’t going to go to Oxford and win last year. They were still at full strength and had played well to that point. Still, we absolutely looked awful. I turned off the TV at halftime and began to worry we may end up 5-7 or 4-8.

Sitting in the stands that day (roasting) was absolutely awful. What made it worse was the looks of pity from the Ole Miss fans. Those looks of pity that usually are the result of a directional-school getting whipped for a pay day. Looks of pity!

You’re right. I was there too and it was simply awful and embarrassing. And then we had to go to The Grove and meet the Ole Miss tailgate we were with. And it was pitty plus “We knew we were better than you.” Said in a way that was not arrogant in the moment. Just factual.

Due to kids and deployments this was the 1st road game I’ve been able to attend in a few years. The Ole Miss fans were great, the school did a great job providing water and the AC tents and the Grove was everything i’ve heard. Too bad only one team decided to suit up that day. I stayed until the end and it was brutal, there wasn’t a single bright spot on our team that day.

On the PAPN podcast a while back, they eluded to opposing coaches mentioning that Kirby tried to do too much in defense early in the season and that after Ole Miss, they scaled it back considerably.
I don’t know if that’s because they don’t have the personnel they need at DB, or if they didn’t understand the scheme.
I do know that in addition to Ole Miss, there were massive busts in secondary vs Tech once they suffered a few injuries.
My feeling is that the talent back there still isn’t fully recovered from the 2013 exodus.

You know it’s bad when Tech’s triple option running game used the pass to take advantage of our secondary. I still can’t believe our all round ineptitude in the last half of the 4th quarter.

Talking to an Ole Miss D-lineman after the game while collecting his amateur student allotment through the Grove, I asked if our O-line was even worse than I realized. In a very nice way, he said something like “Georgia is always been one of the big, bad teams you dream about playing. But man…I was a little disappointed at how easy it was to beat them.” We shook hands, I wished him well, and then I started drinking even more.

Watching feed, I’m reminded that so much of Eason’s mediocre completion percentage was a result of him getting killed every play and receivers dropping balls. I still think Eason is a rare talent and if he gets some help on the line and from the receivers, could be special.
