Ambassador to the Champions of Life

If you’re the current head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, I’m not sure if hearing that Phillip Fulmer has been named to a paying gig as special adviser to the president for community, athletics and university relations is actually worse than a vote of confidence… but it’s close.

Don’t look over your shoulder, Booch.

  1. As long as Bootch doesn’t have heart problems, he’ll be ok. Fulmer needs a medical emergency to move someone out.

That was when he was younger, horse has left the barn for Phat Phil. Being passed over by….everyone….for a decade has pretty well sealed the deal for him. This failed last effort to get the AD job shows that his days of being a major factor have passed him by. Nice guy, very loyal subject to the vol program, but a guy who wasn’t a great coach but had some decent coordinators, won a few major recruiting battles to gather some decent talent, and had the SEC look the other way for many transgressions. Ambassador is a good position for him, he has a lot of supporters throughout their fan base and loves the program.

I would say that Cuttcliff and the Chief were better than decent.

Didn’t mean it as demeaning, should have chosen a better word. Both were better than the boss, which was what I was saying. Fulmer was the HC but not the brains of the program.

Fulmer cheats and he stabbed Johnny Majors in the back. He’s getting what he deserves.

Can’t disagree with that. Probably a good guy to have BBQ and a beer with but I had little respect for him as a HC….and TN was dirty under him. Lack of discipline under him threw TN into a downward spiral.

I watched the clip of Butch’s reaction to the Hail Mary last year the other day. Gawd.
That play saved his job. If we had won he wouldn’t be at UT this season. Maybe that’s a good thing for us, maybe not. He has a .500 average against us, right?

I thought coming back from 3 TDs down to beat Georgia in 2015 saved his job that year, too. Bootch ought to give a contribution to B-M.

This just shows how much TV money there is to spend.

I had a similar reaction as well. You know these schools are loaded when they can afford to keep someone on as an ambassador for a million dollar per year (or whatever Fulmer is gonna make). Kinda like how the UFC kept some of their early stars on after retirement in “do-nothing” jobs.

At least Fulmer didn’t land another gig and quit when things bottomed out before returning home to the charity line like Spurrier did.

This guy stabbed Johnny Majors in the back while he was in a hospital bed. He is slime ball #1. How the vol nation can stand behind this guy is beyond me?

That is a justification to you…one year of football? Agree with Apalach, he did nothing to erase how he got the job. But Vols would embrace anyone who stands on their sideline. Junior took down their traditions in pics and quotes and put up USC memorabilia and they didn’t say a damn word. No principled fools, imo.
