Florida coach Jim McElwain didn’t hesitate when asked if troubled receiver Antonio Callaway is running out of chances following his third off-the-field issue in the past 20 months.
“Absolutely,” McElwain said on Monday. “The one thing I will do is I’ll continue to help. I’ll continue to be there. I’ll continue to support. But obviously the consequences, you make your own bed, man.”
Running out of chances.
Man, for McElwain to embarrass himself like that… all I can say is Callaway must be an All-American type talent. Or has pictures of McElwain naked with… uh, wait.
Made me smile, which my family thinks a rare thing.

Exactly, Callaway is Garcia-esque in his crusade to become the laughing stock of how CFB helps promote the image of how coaches have become enablers of bad behavior. I like McElwain but he is not living up to the image coaches wish to put forward as developing a player for life. Doesn’t mean he is so bad the NFL won’t take him, but looks like a loser over the long haul. Not denying his athletic ability or value to the team but I have never understood why a coach would sell his integrity by allowing a player to bend him over so publicly. Just sets them up for more, imo.

Except it cost Fulmer his job as the rot weakened them from within. And at $3-4 MM plus per year, do you really need to sell your legacy? Bet JoePa would like a mulligan on protecting Sandusky, who will ever think the same of him?

I feel knowing the criminals were going to be running the team caused Corch to leave early. Then the AD had Boom be tough and that caused him issues with winning so now the gators are back trying to play winning ball above all.

Of note though, this is a time where paying the players would have consequence. Imagine if a player who got into trouble for something were to lose their payment for the season. It would at least be a consequence for these players who basically can do anything other than commit a crime the requires immediate jail time.

Maybe. But if a guy is already a thief, then you might possibly be motivating that side of him. I say give him the CMR treatment. Fat chance, though. But I believe McElwain will regret his lack of discipline…sooner or later it will backfire.

Did on Fulmer for sure.

When the S E C will not come together to set the rules for Drug and Criminal behavior this is what we have. Each School protecting there Won Loss record. Only because all the Schools presidents don’t want to rock the boat and do what’s needed top to bottom so everyone is playing by the same rules. If they wanted it to change they would vote to give the NCAA subpoena Powers that would make all investigations more complete and quicker. But when and it want happen because there would be mass resignations through out college Athletics because all the underhanded shenanigans would be easier found. Just my thoughts

Excellent post. It isn’t just the SEC, although Slive and Sankey are both guilty of not being better stewards of the conference. Strong leadership and some work behind the scenes could have gotten this done, imo.. I know there were some select schools that fought their weak efforts but shining some light on that would have made them get in line.

McElwain has really jumped the shark now

I’d say he’s having a hard time completely jumping it…

I don’t punish my players like that I just love em up. Just love em and the good people they are and the great things they do on the field. Really lovin up that big play ability. What was the question again?

Yet we continue to play on an field slanted against us because of our own policies. Noble or not, we lose on the field. I.e. Ridley will be sitting out the first game…..I believe he’d be playing at the majority of SEC schools. The Georgia Way.
