Marshall, at 6-foot-3 and 274 pounds, used his athleticism to his advantage as a freshman. During the past year, however, Marshall said he has honed in on the fundamentals to improve his performance as a defensive end.
“When I first got here I wasn’t playing with much technique,” Marshall said. “I was playing to get off the ball faster than the O-lineman. I’ve pretty much learned technique.”

Can I just say that this does not thrill me. I am pretty sure DT is a position where perfect technique is far less important than maximum effort. Technique has to be second nature so that tackles can focus on aggressiveness.

That would be why you rep it so that it is second nature and then you can be aggressive while using perfect technique.

I’m just hoping that somebody can set the edge, sometime. When you get suckered in and end up just watching the play because you were so far out of position, it’s not helpful. This was not meant as a criticism of the kid specifically but the Dline and OLB’s in general.

I think David Marshall won’t easily forget one of UNC’s touchdowns last year. He got the proverbial ass chewing.
