Judging from the responses I’ve gotten in regards to yesterday’s ridiculous haul of commitments, cannon shot has officially entered meme territory.
UGA’s staff knows that the talent margin is closing, that we are no longer a team with a couple of nice pieces – that we are getting deep. Sandridge was a cannon shot. A championship playoff run, at a position of need, and we still get the commitment – regardless of what is being written about currently (and make no mistake, it isn’t a coincidence).
It has been a long time since we’ve been this deep. On the staff and on the roster. It’s the middle of July and we are all in the same range of commitments and we are ahead of them. Pressure is all on them.
They’ll crack any day, man.
In the meantime, Georgia now sits sixteen spots ahead of South Carolina in the latest 247Sports Composite team rankings.

UPDATE: In case you were wondering, the Lexicon has been updated.
Yesterday indeed was absurd, and word is a few more top recruits will be committing this week. As for that now infamous quote, again don’t forget that we turned down Sandidge on NSD, as we were totally full. Also, SCU is sitting exactly where they typically end up ranked in recent years – in the 17-23 range, and they have been falling fast as of late while we quickly climbed from around #12 to #2.
I never thought I’d see UGA recruit like this in my lifetime. Couple that with UF’s misery and horrible class as of now, and I’m on cloud 9.

16 spots behind doesn’t sound all that bad. However when you look at the actual talent gap, it’s just gross.

And all Carolina can do is improve their standing, we can’t improve ours. Where do you go from #1 or #2 — # -3?

They may have to beat us this year to have a chance in the next 5 or more

SCU has 4 recruits ranked in the top 300. UGA, meanwhile, has FIVE 5 star athletes already in the fold, with 15 if their 16 commits ranked in the top 275. Insane difference.

I checked out the Big Spur message board yesterday. There was no talk of cannons. The rational among their fan base are realizing they may be becoming cannon fodder.

Just need to cement it on the field this fall. A good solid win, where they have no real shot at the end, would be very satisfying.

Don’t kid yourself. We could beat them 100-0 this season, and they’d still consider themselves to be “one year away.”

At what point does Kirby leak salacious information about Grayson’s head football coach in favor of a more dawg friendly installment? They rarely send us 5 Stars, and the one we have currently might be broken. As it stands right now their two biggest recruits are going to Auburn and Tennessee. This does not work.

Don’t be shocked if the one to Auburn does’t end up being one of Kirby’s signature flips down the home stretch.

With Channing Tindall on board already, if they get the Dean kid from MS, we may not even try to flip Pappoe.
The one I want is Webb. If we steal the no. 1 OL in the country out of Alabama, well, THAT’S a cannon shot.

Yup the Cocks are closing the gap – the gap between them and Kentucky or Vandy.
As for the Gators – what can be said other than they suck.

Obviously this will depend on what service is being used for rankings but, 25% of the committed 5 Star prospects for the 2019 class have “committed to the G.”

This is all well and good boys, but it’s how they play between the lines that really matters. Naturally, one would think with such a tremendous talent gap UGA should be wiping the floor with SC on a yearly basis and that hasn’t been the case. The line out of Vegas is currently 14 points, so with all that talent I expect that we beat the Cocky’s by at least that margin.

so 4-1, all wins double-digit and covers (made their greatest coach quit, like a frenchman, BTW). Nobody on our coaching staff present for the last loss and any 5th year player on the roster was redshirting and might not have been on the travel squad.
Is that the prism you want to view this challenge through?

I’m just pointing out that a lot of the resident posters seem to have an “alternate facts” version of events in which we haven’t beaten sahkerlina often and convincingly.
I was quoting the poster about me, in case it wasn’t clear.

The funny thing to me about this with Sackerlina is that aren’t they the ones that were going to hire CKS, and isn’t that why we got off our AD asses and pulled the trigger? That is a just a little extra something for me.

I still don’t believe Kirby ever would have taken that job.

I’m sure everyone realizes this, but the primary reason we’ve been able to gloat over UGA’s flattening of this take over the past few weeks is just that it was such an absurd take from the moment fleurdicock clicked ‘post.’ I’m sure Rick Sandidge will be a fine player, and like most 4-stars certainly has the tools to be a spectacular player, but SC edging out UGA for a NC defensive lineman who would have been the 14th highest-rated player in UGA’s class (in the bottom half of the class, that is) was just miles & miles from a “cannon shot” to begin with.
Boom may do great things at SC, and God knows we could lose in Columbia in 40 days, but in no way is SC getting deeper (at least not yet), nor is the the “talent margin closing.” The margin’s markedly increasing, in fact, even before our recruiting successes over the past few weeks. Just looking at talent, but last year SC had, count ’em, zero 5-stars on their roster and fewer than half as many 4-stars as UGA, and the same will be the case this season.
It’s still a blast to tap dance on our friends to the east’s delusions, though. Here’s hoping it lasts for years to come and we don’t take it for granted.

Bigger picture here is that Kirby is after Sagan’s ass. We have all waited for a coach to take us to the promised land. This is just the beginning folks of UGA football dominance for years to come.
