Against the Gators, Fromm’s stat line on passing downs: 6 of 8 for 100 yards, no sacks and no interceptions.
- We all know that Kentucky’s offense is built around its running game, but it’s interesting to note that in two of the last three games, the ‘Cats have been held to less than 100 yards on the ground. Those two games were against run defenses that are higher ranked than Georgia’s and they’re sandwiched around a game where Kentucky ran roughshod over Vanderbilt’s defense, so I don’t want to read too much into that, but it’s worth noting Benny Snell’s workload this season.

Let’s have another off week this week Mr. Snell and then you can run for 250 against Big Urnge the next week and I’ll even root for you to do it.

I like that but I am a proponent of RTDB myself. And yet, the prospect of getting into some HUNH and getting some points on the board to make UK play catch up is intriguing. Nauta, Ridley, Godwin, Hardman and and Holloman…a steady dose is exotic. While still hammering with the “hammer Holyfield.”
I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think UK is a great passing team that can play catch up.

A college QB hitting downfield reads (not just throws – reads) is a force multiplier. It changes everything. If you have a running game to go along with it.
I agree that Fromm is probably the biggest position advantage on the field in that game. If he’s hitting his marks, it’s going to be over early.

Senator, just fyi, the google pop up ads on the mobile version are becoming almost unbearable. Don’t know if there’s a setting you can change. Your site stays on the screen for about 5 seconds before some pop-up “Congratulations” scam pulls up and hijacks it.

This game will be maddening in the opening stanzas due to our bend-but-don’t-break defense. That works to KY’s strengths in my mind. They want to grind it out. They might take a shot or two, but that’s not their DNA. If we can’t get Snell on the ground (i.e. good tackling/leverage) then we will need to score every time we get the ball. It may take a Hardman return or a well timed jail break screen to get momentum initially. KY isn’t a joke. They win by dragging their opponent down to their level kicking and screaming. They have pass rush, so Fromm needs his internal timer to be on point.

Our most obvious issue seems like it’s finally getting attention. It’s jarring how many times we have a guy in the right spot, either in contain or filling a hole, and he just over pursues or flat out whiffs. It’s so easy to think that this is a youth problem but, in my eyes, Natrez and Lecounte have been the biggest culprits. Both those dudes are always there and just don’t make the play. This is where we miss Roquan so much. It was remarkable how he made every damn play. We just need an ILB to step up. Seems like the line is doing enough to force plays in to the right gap or to the edge and our Mike, Jack, Star, and Safeties just aren’t making plays. A lot of the ills that have been plaguing us will be solved if we just make 4-5 more of these plays per game and get off the field.

Amen! I’ve thought the same thing. Roquan made it look so easy, because plays died when he was around. He was such a sure tackler that we take it for granted. LeCounte especially has been galling to watch as he gets in position but just takes a bad angle or has bad leverage. Can’t do that with KY. They will try to bully you right back.

He had his moments, yes. However, as a whole he has had a rough season, IMO. Also, I was attempting to point out how spoiled we all are by Roquan’s ability to tackle and kill plays in their tracks. In comparison, LeCounte seems like a rough work in progress. I didn’t explain that very well though.

I agree. I dogged him pretty good after LSU — deservedly so, IMHO — but thought he had a pretty good game against UF.

I thought so too about LeCounte… Natrez–not so much. Dude must have ran right by a would’ve been TFL what seemed like six or eight times! I’m beginning to think they should stay with Crowder and Rice a bit more. To me, they seem the most consistant ILBs when it comes to tackling (at least in last couple games).

We are now seeing how Roquan’s consistency was such a huge attribute. I agree regarding Natrez. He has had some good games this year, Vandy, but against the Gators is was maddening how he would fill the hole only to see the play go right past him. Even 3 or 4 more plays made could turn an otherwise close game into a route.

I don’t think Snell will be our big problem. I’m more worried about Terry Wilson picking up a few 3rd downs with his legs after we lose contain.

Kentucky is Notre Dame last year with a worse passing game. If we tackle well, they will have problems driving the length of the field against us.

Open up the offense and make them pass and play catch up. The offense can apply pressure just like the defense. Jump on them early so they can’t just get comfortable handing the ball to Snell. Unless we’re breaking big runs, just running the ball allows them to hang around. We need to use all the tools or let them still be in it late and I think they’ve proven the kind of team they are if in that situation. Just run the damn ball is exactly what they need and are hoping for.

This is going to be a game where a good offense is going to be the best defense. The DAWGS are going to have to come out hot and score early and often. KY is not built to play catch up.

I think they attack us with their QB running also. We have to spy him and limit what he does. We don’t have to shut down their run game just slow it enough to be effective. Also I know their defense is stout but I am asking…who have they played? I know much is made of Mizzou and how they shut down Lock in the second half but didn’t we do the same?
