“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In honor of the remixed White Album just released, I thought I’d list my five favorite (as opposed to “best”) records of the sixties, in alphabetic order:
Pet Sounds, Beach Boys
A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles
Live at the Apollo, James Brown
Highway 61 Revisited, Bob Dylan
Let It Bleed, Rolling Stones
Those are the ones I still play the most, anyway.

Don’t know where I heard it but I like the up tempo “Tom Thumb’s Blues” so much more than the Highway 61 version.

Politics can wait. Something more important to discuss.
How can our guys be expected to beat Alabama when the game is obviously tilted in their favor? I’ve spent over 5k on tickets to the last 2 games with them and have watched our guys show up better motivated, better prepared and outplay the class of college football decisively. And in both I left with a firm conviction that the games were not called fairly. In 120 minutes of football they’ve led for 9 plays. In such a scenario, every call matters and can be the difference between winning and losing.
It doesn’t appear to me to be random. There’s too many and they’re too obvious and they all go one way. And I’m not talking about holding calls or even hands to the face. Those are often missed both ways.
I’m talking about:
Stanley was clearly hit out of bounds.
Fromm was hit in the head with a facemask grab. You can’t hit a qb’s head while he’s in the pocket.
Stokes clearly did not interfere and even if he had, the ball was uncatchable.
These are not missed calls. They are evidence of a game with an outcome which is illegitimate.
Our guys put too much time and too much effort to put up with that shit. We as fans invest far too much time and money into these games to leave feeling like we didn’t have a chance.
They’re asking us to sit down at a poker table with the worlds best pro, marking the cards and stealing from us. I’m done with it.
To be clear, I’m not suggesting bags of cash are being exchanged with refs. I’m suggesting some hidden factor is biasing the refs towards Alabama.
Is it like boxing where the judges know who the powers that be want to win and so they’re biased in their scoring? Maybe. Are the refs selected in such a way to ensure that the most gutless are on Saban’s sideline and they know they won’t annoy him? Maybe.
This isn’t just me saying this either. Every fan base in the west has noticed this. There is film of a ref moving a spot after looking at the yard to gain marker and moving the ball a full yard forward in Alabama’s favor. The former head of nfl officiating has said that the sec officials have lost their legitimacy and credibility.
It may mean more but suddenly it all means much less to me today. I’m not investing my time and money into the equivalent of professional wrestling and that’s where we are.
We should start by insisting that the head of officiating should not be a graduate of a league team. That would be a good beginning.
One thing I would like to see is some enterprising class action lawyer looking at filing on behalf of ticket holders who lost the implicit benefit of a fair competition. I think a case can be stated and I don’t think the depositions would be pretty for the sec office.
Someone needs to put a big scope up their ass and take a look around.
It maybe that the feeling is don’t publicly come out as “sore losers” and that you just can’t win the PR battle. Maybe. I get that.
Maybe we wait for us to be so much better than them that it doesn’t matter how rigged it is. I do know that we’re supoosed to play at Tuscaloosa in 2020. Typically I’d be planning to go with as many dawg fans as I could gather. But at this point I have no interest. If we see them in Atlanta next fall, I’m not going to that either.
I can watch us get jobbed from the couch for nothing.

I’m convinced that the 2017 natty game was fixed by the mob. If you look at what happened with the line moving and the amount bet and on whom before and after the line moved, it is pretty apparent that somebody set up a scenario where a Bama 3 point win allowed somebody to win both ways. Just sayin.’

And, what’s really annoying is that we have to sit and stew over this by ourselves. I mean, no one that is a non Dawg is talking about the shitty calls/non calls Saturday night or NC game. You start bitching to a non Dawg about the shitty calls and they look at you like a sore loser with 2 heads.

Just like Georgia fans looked at Bama fans when several calls/no calls didn’t go their way in 2016 against Clemson. And just like Bama fans looked at Texas fans when a B12 crew was botching a Texas-OK State game 6 ways to Sunday, everything in OSU’s favor. We only care when it bites our team in the butt.
The officiating in college sports isn’t corrupt. It’s incompetent. Duke basketball walks onto the court shooting free throws and never worrying about a guy getting into foul trouble because it’s Duke Basketball With Coach K. The officials are terrified of him.
College officiating in basketball and football is laughably bad for a variety of reasons. Pros are only marginally better. And fundamentally, it’s because consumers will consume the product on spite of it.
I compare it to a restaurant with awesome food and occasionally horrible service. Eventually the employees and owner figure out you’re coming back anyway.

IIRC, the “uncatchable” determination doesn’t apply in college, only the pros. I know for a fact it doesn’t apply in HS after watching Rome HS get flagged for DPI on a receiver along the sideline when the ball landed 25 yards away in the center of the field.

A. Never put full trust in the rules interpretation of a GHSA official. I once called a game with a head official who called defensive pass interference on a complete pass. He then proceeded to award both the reception yards and the penalty yards to the offense, and he couldn’t be talked out of how correct he thought he was.
B.
NCAA Football Rule 7, Article 8. Section c.
“Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team
B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and could
prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a CATCHABLE forward
pass.”

It is going to take a sustained, very loud, and concerted effort by all the SEC teams not named Alabama before anything happens. I can MAYBE see how some of the holding calls are missed (but rarely when we do it) but the others are blatant. The late hit on the sidelines and the face mask on Fromm are at the point were ALL eyes are focused on the action and yet not a single zebra saw a thing, Just like the face mask non call last year where (Sony or Nick) almost had his head ripped of. He was just about looking out the ear hole it was so egregious, but not a soul in zebra stripes saw anything.
This year when we had a sack on Tua negated by hands to the face, the refs seemed to have had incredible vision. When we committ and infraction, it seems that eagles would be envious of the refs vision, but when Alabama committed and infraction, the refs seemed to have been trained by the Sergeant Shlutz school of observation.

All sports are rigged. Sorry, but they are, and there isn’t much we can do about it….ever. If you get a bunch of kids together for a game of marbles, and they keep playing, eventually a crowd will form up, money will be bet, and someone will rig it. To mention this in casual conversation to many sports fans gets a good laugh, but people are easy to fool and want to think that sports are pure. Most people also believe in shit like ghosts, curses and bad luck, so there you go. I went in to Saturday knowing that Alabama had the refs in their pocket. I don’t know why they do exactly, but they do for now. Like always, I was hopeful that this time would be different, but deep down I knew that the only way we could win was to beat them so soundly that the refs would have to resort to cheating SO OBVIOUS that even the casual fan would notice. That didn’t happen. Instead we got hosed, but very discretely in a close game. Oh well. Anyway, I can’t even attempt to watch the NFL anymore because it is very obvious in every single game how they control the outcome with certain calls at certain times. Baseball can seem just as bad. The NBA is worse. Single owner sports like NASCAR and Ultimate Fighting are egregious. I always felt like college had too many moving parts to rig completely, which is why I have stayed with it while giving up all of the above, but that has changed with the refs having so much power. The casual fan won’t notice though.

I believe if Nick Saban weren’t on that sideline at least half of those bad calls/non calls in the past 2 games would have gone our way.
The refs are scared of the God of college football. I mean, do you want to be the dude Saban is sitting there calling out in front of that Coke bottle railing about a call that cost his team the game? When Saban talks, everyone is listening.
I have said this before on here and will say it again- I think Saban raised holy hell behind the scenes over that pick play that cost them the game 2 years ago against Clemson. That helped strike fear in these officials. No way he just took that like a good soldier.

FWIW I agree with you that the refs are afraid of Saban. But, I also want them to be afraid of GEORGIA (via Kirby, our AD, our President–I don’t GAS who) so that they don’t do that shit to the Dawgs any more. Missy State, Auburn, Arky, etc. that’s up to them to stand up for themselves–not my or our job. I think someone on Georgia’s behalf needs to raise holy hell behind the scenes about what has happened to GEORGIA in its last 2 games with Bama to the point where it won’t happen again. I don’t think Kirby has the cache to be able to pull that off–yet. I know our AD doesn’t have the balls to do it. If anybody, I think it’s going to have to be Jere Morehead. I’ve met Jere before but I can’t say I know him well enough personally to ask him. I do know (because he told me himself) that he was so incensed about Penn Wagers allowing Murray to get speared in the head by Auburn linebacker Dee Ford in the 2013 Georgia-Auburn game with no flag being thrown that he personally complained both by formal letter and verbally to Mike Slive to the point that Slive told him to “stop whining.” (BTW I never liked Slive and what right has Slive, SEC Commissioner, to tell a university president that anyway?) I do think that the complaint had some effect because Wagers was shown the door almost immediately thereafter (with a fairwell retirement tour the following year). So probably it has to be Jere. If it were up to me I would have someone put together a DVD of all the missed calls and no-calls in the 2017 and 2018 games and send it to the new commish with a formal complaint then follow up with more personal phone calls and maybe even a meeting in person to emphasize that we are not taking this any more. Anybody out there know Jere well enough to put a bug in his ear? You would be doing the Dawgs a really big service.

P.S. I like Steve Shaw personally, but whoever suggested it above is right–Shaw needs to go. We don’t need a Bama alum supervising referees that are going to be reffing games involving Bama. Period. It’s a conflict of interest plus it just plain looks bad. Plus, I can’t say that behind the scenes there isn’t some wink-wink nod-nod going on between Shaw and some of the refs about Bama–can you?
