Forget about the disappointing 40-yard time. Isaac Nauta will always have a special place in Kirby Smart’s heart for one simple reason.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I can’t get a good read on whether Nauta should have returned. He isn’t going to be a difference maker at tight end but, with his ability to block, he could still have a good career in the league.
He can still outrun 10rc’s defense.

He could have improved his 40 time if he really wanted to work on it for a year. As for reasons….there is a whole lot that we don’t know that goes on behind the scenes.

Never been a touchdown that a guy got chewed out worse for.

Interesting how his blocking ability is discussed but the clip that’s shown shows him getting beaten badly (even if the end result is positive).

Nauta would be in a much better spot if he and Eason could have kept their hookup alive. Not saying that as an overall knock on Fromm, but in terms of the rapport Nauta and Eason had, Nauta would have a better resume with Eason by a long shot.

His inability to get out of bounds in a two-minute drill hurts him worse than his 40 time, IMO.

When I was watching the last two years games, two guys that have been dawg graded somewhat stood out to me. While Javon Sims and Holloman had a way of going up and making catches that would show up on Sportscenter, when we were in third and long situationsand needed a first down (or in 2 minutes drills) Nauta and Goodwin were relatively sure money. I think they will both find spots on Sunday; maybe they won’t be first round picks, but they are complete players that will get spots. The only thing I could fault Nauta for is after making a catch for a first down he was too reluctant to get out of bounds because he thought he could do it on his own.
