Yep. Three more for you today.
- This grouping of coaches makes a lot more sense than the ACC/SEC one I linked to yesterday. Note Dan Mullen’s championship track record.
- Here’s a list of college football’s top 25 quarterbacks. One and two are the general consensus selections, followed by some kid named Fromm.
- If you’re wondering where Geoff Collins might fall on a list of the new hires in FBS based on their future prospects, this one at USA Today pegs him third.
I can’t quibble with the top three and the ordering, but Justin Fields at 11th best, and citing his spring game results?

Justin is going to be the man at tOSU. You just wait and see….

Could very well be, but he hasn’t played as a top eleven QB in any college football game yet.
To rate him ahead of guys who have actually performed well is to elevate potential over performance.

Given the Jake Fromm draft outlook, I can’t help but wonder if Justin is regretting his decision. I still say the only reason Fields left is he knows Fromm is going to be a 4-year guy.

The coaches could have red-shirted Fields and with the new rules he could have been the back-up to Fromm and taken over as starter if Fromm gets injured yet also still played in 4 games. Big mistake leaving IMHO. He likely would have been the starter in Athens for 3 seasons starting in 2020. All that said, I think he’s a troublemaker and we’re better off without him. There is no “I” in team but when it comes to Justin Fields there is a whole lot of “ME.”

same here….was gonna say that Sam Ehlinger may be a little undervalued, but really can’t quibble with #6.

Think he is overvalued myself. But it doesn’t matter, doubt we will be seeing him again, but hope we do. We contributed to his high ranking by playing dead on New Year’s Day, he doesn’t face many quality defenses this season.

Knew about him before the bowl game, as my BIL (alumnus UT) kept reminding me of him. So, I was not surprised at all.
Heard the same about Mayfield before we played Oklahoma (defenses), but he certainly put a scare in me in the Rose. He was the best QB I had seen all year…probably in several years.
As far as him being “overvalued” at 6, I certainly do not agree. It is probably about right. He certainly had a pretty dang good year imo (below):

It is hard to get a list like that 100%, but it is all subjective. Just like both our opinions. BTW, if I could make one change on that list, it would be Fromm at #1. I think he is that good.

We certainly can disagree, everyone can on subjective polls. I will stick with over rated on him, above average talent but stats are bloated by Big 12 defenses. BTW, I never thought Mayfield was over rated, didn’t like his act at all, but he was a warrior on the field.

I think Geoff Collins is going to do good there’s a lot of excitement @ Georgia Tech this year. They all hyped up this year at Tech

The problem with Justin Fields is that he is a dual threat on a team that cannot afford to have him injured.
There is almost literally no backup QB. That takes away a lot of his mojo. And we’ve seen that Fields’ first inclination when pressured is to run.
On the other hand, if he’s told he cannot run the ball, maybe he’ll settle down and become a great passer.
But either tOSU gambles hugely and lets him risk running a lot, or they take away half of his act.
I don’t keep up with the Buckeyes, but they should be very conservative with him until they have recruited another like QB and have him up to speed to as a backup.

to me, it is experience. Only 2 years as a starter in HS has hurt him….& none as a college QB. Gonna be tough learning from someone at OSU, transferring not too smart on his part imo.

Hmmm “Georgia Tech’s backyard has never been more fertile in terms of recruiting and “Georgia Tech could be primed to shift the balance of power.” “Considering the state of ACC Coastal competition, Georgia Tech could be primed to shift the balance of power.”
Well we see what Georgia Tech is about they apparently they going to when there ACC Conference lmao

That CBS list for coaches is not only the best I have seen done, it sets logical criteria for the rankings. Kudos to the writer, he did his homework on this list.
Everyone quibbles, but only Fisher is misplaced (wrong tier, imo) in the Top Tier, agree with the order of the other four. I think Babers should be in the 2nd tier, and Fuentes might be a tier too high, we will see soon. Malzahn didn’t qualify for ANY tier? That is hilarious.

I thought the list was the best I’ve ever seen. Great job by the writer. Gus is in the “Jury is still out” category and I think that’s fair, especially given the other guys in that category.
