Throwing a true freshman quarterback into that schedule? Sheesh. South Carolina’s clouds don’t have silver linings.

Reports: South Carolina senior QB Jake Bentley is out at least 6 weeks with a broken foot. True freshman Ryan Hilinski has been named the new starting QB.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. Unless the kid is a Jake Fromm clone….

Even if Hillinski is @ Jake Fromm South Carolina won’t win the division unless the rest of the Cocks’s two deep 21 offense are Georgia 2017 clones, and they aren’t

I would say this is terrible news for Boom but frankly Jake Bentley hasn’t looked that good.

Agree.. Hasn’t looked great and his dad is QB coach, so this is the only way they get a fresh start and paves way for next season

Bentley is the TE coach.

I wonder if he was playing through that in the 4th on Saturday. Those last few passes looked especially bad.

Might end up being a positive for the chickens. Bentley is terrible.

The first report I saw said “foot injury…out indefinitely”….and my first thought was that they decided to cut bait with Bentley.

Jake Fromm, our ‘boring’ (according to some) QB, was thrown in because of injury, so it could work out. “Could” being the operative word.

This sounds like a win to me for him. He gets the well out starting QB got injured card to play for a bunch of crappy losses he is going to have anyways. That will buy him at least this year without a problem.

Jake Bentley still plays the same as he did his freshman year, so it seems like a lateral move to me.

Let’s just say quarterback development is not something Will Muschamp-coached teams are known for.

That sucks. I wouldn’t wish that on anybody, not even tech.

Tough news for JB and the SC team..but they were (are) going to get thrashed this year regardless.

I feel for Bentley. He must have been in horrible pain but continued to play while the SC D let NC score.

Word is he kicked a locker after the game and broke his foot then.

That might explain why he wasn’t showing signs of a broken foot after the game, while leaving the field. The ‘cock fans I know are happy about the benching. I won’t say they’re happy that Bentley got hurt, they’re just unhappy with his performance.

Boom must have coached him on how to do that. Mr. Bad Temper …..
BTW, Gus yelled “Boom” during the Auburn game…..

I hate it for Bentley just because it’s terrible any time a player gets hurt but I won’t be shedding any tears for the Chickens.

Holy crap! Well, I hate it for Bentley but I don’t think he was going to get much better. This at least gives him a head start into next season.

Bentley is a senior. He maybe could graduate this academic year and transfer for a fresh start. If Fromm goes pro I could see Smart trying to get him to be the bridge from Fromm to Mathis or the kid from Jacksonville coming in next season. I will bet Kirby would prefer starting a QB with SEC experience over starting a freshman with 1 game under his belt when we play at Alabama next season.

If graduate transfer Jake Bentley is our best option at any point next year we’ve got much bigger problems than playing Alabama on the road

Really? Connor Beck or Dwan Mathis with 4 whole quarters of SEC football under their belts are better options for us at Alabama than a guy who started 37 games for a SEC team and has thrown fo4 7,500 yards? I realize Beck and Mathis will eventually be better QBs but you see no value in having a grad transfer in a QB room with a sophomore and row freshmen?
