For perspective,
- Phillip Fulmer lost six games by at least 25 points over 16 seasons.
- In his one season in Knoxville, Junior had one loss by at least 25 points.
- Derek Dooley? In three seasons, he lost seven games by at least 25 points.
- As for Booch, five seasons, nine losses by 25 points or more.
Pruitt’s on pace to demolish all of that… assuming he gets the opportunity, that is. As it is, in the short run, his team will face Alabama and Georgia by mid-October.

Peter Principle in full effect as I predicted when he got the job, and as the great Bill Walsh used to say, there are football coaches, and there are gym teachers. Surprisingly, the majority of HCs are glorified versions of the latter.
Now, I’m not putting Pruitt in the gym teacher category, but for someone who is supposed to be a defensive specialist, he’s giving up a ton of points in most games. This tells me he’s spending far too much time involved in other areas instead of appropriately delegating authority, and as a result his D isn’t anywhere near where it should be.

Defensive genius Pruitt gave up a ton of yards and points to dumpster fire Florida in 2014 and squandered a 21 point lead to Tennessee in 2015. We would have won the east in 2014 and would have played for the east in 2015 had he lived up to his reputation. I was glad to see him go.

I guess to be completely fair, they are starting five true freshman and have a shitty QB. That doesn’t explain the wide open people running through their secondary all day against Florida or being unable to stop Georgia State’s running game, though.

Yeah, I thought Pruitt was supposed to be a DB specialist. Even Chris Doering, the ex-Gator on SECN, was tempering the Gator love by saying there weren’t any Vols in the picture on all those throws by their new savior, Trask (who wasn’t good enough to start in high school, BTW).
Phat Phil is waiting until after the Bama game before he’ll step in as “interim” HC and save the day against Vandy.

I think that’s probably the over-his-head part. He seemingly can’t figure out how to properly manage the overall program to the point that his area of expertise isn’t even functioning properly. Usually, the side of the ball a coach coordinated is at least respectable even if everything else is going to hell.

I felt like he was in over his head when he took any head coaching job, just didn’t think he had the ability to run an entire program. Then, he took the UT job, which was an absolute dumpster fire! It will take a head coach with some high level coaching/recruiting talent to turn this thing around. And they’ll have to have the clout to overcome Fulmer, to boot. This isn’t changing anytime soon.

I have to admit I thought Pruitt put together a decent staff and was going to be a thorn in our side down the road. It has turned into an unmitigated disaster up there and I don’t see how it improves in the short term. Makes me smile.

I thought Tennessee did ok in year 1 under Pruitt consider depth issues, coaching transition, etc. Now he looks like a significantly more humble man that he once was, and also seems to have a far simpler mind than I once believed.

If it’s more than if and or buts that the ut prezz and the ad could get approval to buy out the hc’s/staffs contracts in this seasons november time frame, then yes, pruitt is way the fuck over his head…if that team can finish 5-7/4-8 he might be ok for another year…..loss to vandy could be the dagger
