I blame Monken: the birth of another meme.

For those of you who find it suitable to blame Georgia’s offensive coordinator for the problem that his quarterbacks can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn, allow me to retort with the completion percentages of Monken’s college offenses:

And…

So, with the exception of his first year as a head coach trying to rebuild a program severely lacking in talent (USM was coming off its first 0-12 season ever) using a true freshman starting quarterback, every college passing attack Todd Monken has directed has managed better completion rates than this year’s Georgia team.

Clearly that’s proof he’s lost a couple ticks off his fast ball.

I said it before: Todd Monken is a fucking offensive genius. On every single damn passing play there is at least one WR open in space, if not two or three. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

It’s going to be a shame when he leaves after one season of putting up with Kirby and we’re left with Buster Faulkner who Kirby will find much easier to dominate into submission.

I really have no complaints about Monken and I’m not sure why other people would. Certainly, there’s no room for complaining about Georgia’s passing offense – his scheme is brilliant. As the Senator routinely notes, there is someone open on nearly every play. He had receivers running free on Saturday multiple times for what should have been big gains or touchdowns. Our quarterbacks couldn’t hit them. That’s on the players.

My only issue with the game plan on Saturday was that there was obviously an opportunity to do more on the ground and I felt like we didn’t take advantage. I have less of an issue though with that because what Georgia did instead SHOULD have been working.

If Kirby focused on accuracy, then Monken could do his job.

Not a good combo when both the QB and receivers are struggling. Certainly hope he doesn’t decide to pack his bags. Offense is broken, my guess is….he can fix it if he is allowed.

He has a chance to look like a hero. But it ain’t happening this year.

Dude’s been dealt a shit hand at QB.

Sure, “coach em up” and whatnot, but there is definitely a limit. Fromm and Newman would have been great but they left, and nobody else was ever supposed to be a starter. They were all purely depth recruits. “Flyers” at best.

Monken ain’t going anywhere though. Tough sell to get a comparable job after last season and this year. That’s two years straight with real good excuses for very bad offenses; no fan base wants to hear that. Plus he’s got an all world high school QB he can develop from day one on the way, and if we want to, we will have our pick of transfer QB’s this off season.

Ideally we get this class closed out, then go get a great transfer with one year of eligibility left. Bridge the gap without running the freshman off.

If we start a freshman next year, it doesn’t get much better imo….and that is if we sign him, no guarantees.

Last year, it was more the receivers than Fromm. Coley certainly didn’t help the situation.

I have already posted this, but there is no excuse in a school like Georgia having to look at the transfer portal for QB depth. We should have already had it with Fromm. Eason & Fields….shat is gonna happen. Work your plan, plan your work….same with the receivers – depth, depth, depth.

The offensive side of the ball has been slowly regressing. No “continuity” (OC), depth and etc. We shouldn’t be seeing this in year 5.

Hiring, interfering with the offense, depth????

Take your pick, bottom line is…..it starts and ends with the HC.

Something seems rotten in Denmark. Don’t know what without being there daily, but hope it gets worked out.

Also hopes Smart can learn a little humility along the way. Seems like he always readily throws the players under the bus.

Time & place for that…and that is behind closed doors imo.

  6. I have a feeling Monken waits to make any move until after he sees what he has in the young man who is currently playing QB at Prince Avenue (who committed after Monken’s hire). I am doubting that he has coached a QB prospect at the college level with the skills of this kid.

I just hope that people don’t think that kid will be ready in the fall. The jump in competition is going to be HUGE. He’s not exactly playing against top comp at Prince Avenue Academy.

      • If Vandagriff is going to be on campus in the spring, I see no reason that Monken can’t get him ready to play. According to the recruiting services, he’s prime chicken for the chicken salad or straw for the brick-making process. Would I have liked to see him play at the AAA level or higher? Sure, but the physical tools are absolutely there when you watch the highlights.

Just getting used to how fast defenders are and how hard they hit can take some getting used to.

I’d like to see Beck or Daniels be good enough to let Brock get some seasoning in 2021.

When the scout team QB is our best option, we can pretty reliably say we ain’t winning shit next year with anyone currently on the roster at QB. So I’m hoping either Vandagriff can do what Fromm did as a freshman, or we get a solid transfer.

Agree. Tua’s competition in Hawaii wasn’t exactly elite.

“Only 7 on 7 and camps” misses the point that these camps are elite competition and really help sort out guys who can walk in and contribute year 1 (not necessary game 1) and guys who will need some time to acclimate.

St. Louis recruits all of the good players from the islands. It’s essentially and all-star team. Kahuku is on North Shore Oahu and has a large Samoan population. They are some big ole boys.

Skills may be perfectly fine and well suited to the college game and especially an offense like Monken’s. Competition in Single A Private is so far below what he will face on Saturdays should he still come to Georgia I have a hard time believing that he’ll be ready in 2021 unless Kirby is willing to live with the freshman mistakes for the potential upside and the ability to make the plays that the current stable of QBs can’t seem to make.

      • Kirby was willing to live with Jacob Eason’s mistakes. I really hope Brock is willing to sit and learn (and that Kirby has the luxury of allowing that to happen). I would really like to see Daniels take the reins in 2021 and play well enough to position himself for the 2022 draft.

Acknowledged regarding Eason. The difference, to me at least, is that Eason was year one and there wasn’t a person in the administration or fan base that was going to care about the results of year one to any great extent or start the “fire Kirby” war chant if we went .500. 2021 will be year six and the expectations after top 5 recruiting classes every year is that Georgia competes for SEC championships and national championships. Especially after the amount of money spent on recruiting and facilities.

Nonetheless, this is the hole that has been dug.

For what it’s worth, I don’t blame last Saturday’s loss on anyone presently associated with the Dawgs. Every player and staff member was doing their best to win that game and I guarantgotdamtee you it hurts them as bad or worse than any of us.
I DO blame that quitter grad student from WF. It’s not Daniels’ fault he can’t play and I’ve seen SBIV giving everything he has to win. Very few teams would be even remotely successful as this team CKS has assembled after losing the #1 and #2 QB.
I wouldn’t piss down a quitter’s throat if his guts were on fire. Miserable piece of shit. Fuck him.

  8. My one worry is that after several years of coaching NFL players (and having no practice time limits) he’s maybe not as efficient with some coaching at the college level as he was (plus no spring practice, plus his starter bailing 2/3rds of the way through fall camp.)

Not sure why Monken would leave, unless it was to be HC at one of the elite P5 teams. Of course, there’s the money. But then he’d have to uber recruit and handle all the other shit a HC has to deal with. He’s been there, done that already and walked away from it to return to being an OC.

We surely have the $$ to keep him. We’ll get him a top tier QB soon enough, whether its Daniels, Beck, Vandagriff or someone else. There’s no shortage of talent on the horizon at all the other offensive positions. Let Monken pick his O staff, if he’s so inclined. If Kirby can tone down the manball and control tendencies, he’s got an OC that can bring him championship(s).

From last year to this year Bennett dropped 20% in completions. He exceeded from last year. From Fromm’s fist year to his last he went down.
The most telling stat for me re passing is what Kirby has not realized…you know the manball coach along with others un-named…the years the Dawgs took a title in East was when the percentage went over 60.
I like Monkens offense. Coaching may have limits.
Clearly certain alleged skill players have limits…accuracy, not running under the ball, going to hight point, and etc.
Now if Bennett was never first string before, but pushed to that because a OSU recruit could not cut it at first, then how did he allow himself to drop from 74% to what he is now.
it’s not the coaching or his sets / schemes…films do not live…stats can mislead…watch that Florida game again…multiple players were open and those that were could not catch the ball.
Every skill player would walk around campus with a ball strapped to his ass or hands this week.
The unknown QB in Georgia. Well he is at CCHS. No QB has progressed as much as he has. Ask Camden and Lowndes. He put Lowndes in a fourth quarter running clock. There is fast and speed, then there is him.

Bennett threw maybe 10 passes last season so those stats don’t really matter too much.

I’m happy with Monken’s scheming. He (or whoever he’s designated to work with QBs) obviously has been hampered by the lack of spring ball and time with the players. All the pundits called it during the off season and we blew it off. Turns out, it was kind of a big deal.

I don’t really blame anyone for this year’s debacle. (well, maybe Jamie)..I’m just chalking it up to the most Georgia thing ever phenomena.
The lack of a QB is disturbing, but Kirby did all he really could to correct it when Newman screwed the team.
But the issues are even deeper than QB. Best receiver out for the biggest two games with a mystery injury. Other receivers that give up on the ball, receivers that can’t catch a ball when it does get to them, defensive backs dropping pic six opportunities. Punter having the rare bad game. Late hit throwing QB and offense off track when it was playing well. All of these problems and then the injury bug grows into a monster in one week. It’s a lot of really bad luck. Some of it may have been avoidable to a seer. I don’t know a real one. Some on here seem to think Georgia’s HC should be omnipotent. That’s unreasonable and ridiculous. Kirby is a good coach having a bad year. He’s not a magician.
A lot of people want to lash out and blame someone. If that’s you, do the right thing and lay off the kids and the coaches and blame the officials like I usually do.

Who was it that blamed Jesus and Jake Fromm? Man, if Jake were here now, bless his heart, but he’d probably be improving his draft stock. He could at least hit open guys. But, holding a clipboard for the Bills while cashing a check is probably kind of nice for an elite white person, I guess.

What else? Newman? I got nothing for that. So here we are.

I agree with everyone who has said they can’t blame the players because they are clearly giving it 100%. Stet is a DGD no matter how it pans out. Kirby flat told him they had no plan for him to see the field, he kept grinding anyway, and got his shot. It’s not his fault he’s not elite or in over his head, he’s got everyone telling him he’s not good enough but he keeps going out there to do his best. True Bulldog Mentality. Can’t help but root for him.

D’wan isn’t ready either. Of course, he had his skull cut open not that long ago, no spring to get in sync with the new OC, and probably not a lot of snaps at all because of Newman and now Stet.

JT clearly isn’t healthy or he’d be playing. I could maybe see the frosh getting a snap or two.

And I think Kirby has given Monken room to make decision and run the offense. I don’t buy the Kirby has handcuffed him or got in his way. Is Kirby involved? Yeah, because ultimately it falls on him; but I think he understands Monken knows what he’s doing. At this point, they’re playing to get ready for that Clemson game. The problem is the problem is the quarterback situation and there’s just nothing to do about it right now except keep trotting out Stet or D’wan. Unfortunately, Kirby is a win now guy so they’re going to go all in on winning out so we can play Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. I will not be looking forward to that when all kinds of dude on defense decide to opt-out.

And we haven’t even gotten into the clusterfuck that is Pickens.
