Maybe.
Especially if the Missouri game gets cancelled because of COVID. How Georgia would it be for that to happen and Bennett to reclaim the first team reps next week?

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
We are about to witness an ascension similar to Preston Jones taking the reins from Greg Talley…or perhaps, hopefully, something even better.

It was amazing to see how much better Goff managed and evaluated qbs once Zeier was the starter.
Suddenly, Goff knew how to coach accuracy!
I really don’t know what’s to account for it. Maybe Ray read a book or something like he did as RB coach for Herschel.
Who can forget Ray’s handy coaching pointers:
“Herschel, now go run over everyone and then run so fast they can’t catch you.”
Now that’s coachin’!

Man I hope Kirby finds a coaching quarterbacks for dummies book soon because this shit is getting old.

I’m sure ray will share his. Or maybe Kirby will find the one he lost between the 2018 and 2019 seasons. CKS coached up accuracy pretty good in 2017 and 2018.

Not really. He just inherited a good qb. When he has to do anything offensively he’s just lost. Hopefully he will figure it out soon but not likely. Even Ray was smart enough to hire a good OC and get out of his way. Those offensive game plan meetings back then were hysterical.

Who “inherited” a good qb?

Kirby. Fromm was coached up in high school. All Kirby did was make his foot work and mechanics worse each year. Fromm was smart to leave early. Another year under Kirby and he would not have been drafted at all.

So he recruited talent. He didn’t inherit talent.
That differs from my Talley/Jones vs Zeier analogy, how?

Gawd, I’m gonna regret this…
No, but Kirby is responsible for having a capable QB ready to go, COVID or not. He let Jake take all of the snaps last year which never developed depth behind him, didn’t develop a game plan to get Fields involved so that maybe he was still here this year, stuck with Bennett too long, could’ve gone ahead and repped the passing game against UK, etc. Plenty of decisions he could have made that he is in control of that may change the outcome here. It is pretty clear he was just hoping a 4th string walk-on (he of a career 16/14 TD/INT ratio at JC) could coax us through the season. IMO, “because accuracy!!1!1!” isn’t a valid excuse for where we are with QB right now.
It is a shitty deal no doubt. I trust Kirby is working as hard as he can to fix it. I have no doubt he wants to win even more than we do. On top of that it is his job on the line. But I think one can also acknowledge that at least part of the problem is some of his coaching philosophy/decisions.

What depth behind Jake in 2019?
The depth transferred to OSU.
Responsibility is different than fault.
The only way we’d be better off is if CKS had swung and missed on Fields, Newman or both.

No. The way we get better is if Kirby finds that book you were talking about.

Where were you couch football geniuses during the first three games? Seems everyone was in love with the former walk-on who was dazzling the fans with his beatdown of Auburn and Tennessee…and Arkansas. Now we find all the ugly stats and wonder how he ever got the privilege of wearing a Dawg uniform. Sometimes it’s just better if you shut the hell up.

Senator, I’ve about had it with you badmouthing Stetson Bennett. Georgia was winning the game and Bennett was doing fine until he was hurt by a cheap shot hit in his throwing shoulder (no flag of course). He came out of the game and when Mathis didn’t do well Bennett went back in and still tried to play even though he couldn’t throw effectively. That’s when his stats got bad. BTW I notice you haven’t even mention how much FU cheated in this game and got away with it. The first FU TD was set up by long pass where the receiver clearly pushed off—no flag. FU held all game and cheap shot all game—no flags. Look at the game film.

So if JD kills it an is obviously a better choce everyone is going to be pissed that he didnt play last week and if he comes out and looks terrible not much has changed and we know we are f’ed at quarterback unless we bring in a grad transfer in the offseason. At least it would provide hope for next year. Unless he is a stud and opts to leave early after 4 games and that would absolutely be one of the most Georgia things he could do.

Damn if you do, damned if you don’t. Just like if we had lost to Florida last week playing manball. The complaints would be just as loud as they are now about Kirby not doing it right. Instead he let the players try to execute what was a good offensive game plan and it was a terrible outcome. Now people are questioning his job security and comparing him to the prior coach.

The Athletic Association gives Kirby access to pretty much unlimited resources because winning 9 to 10 games a year wasn’t good enough. When that’s your mandate the bitching comes with the territory. The measuring stick for Kirby’s tenure, as defined by the AD, is championships. Anything less is perceived as failure. He’s been in Athens for five years. This is his team. I agree the game plan last week was good. But lack of execution gets blamed on the head coach. That’s not always fair but it is to be expected.

We’re on the same page my friend. He’s in a tough spot for sure. And he gets paid the big bucks to get out of it in a reasonable fashion.
I agree on the standard. That said, we aren’t going to win the east every year as much as i’d to. I’ll take 3 out of every five for the next 25-30 years – win the east and we are virtually always going to be playing for a playoff spot in atlanta.

He’s not going anywhere!

Actually I’m hearing from people in Florida he is definitely headed to Miami. Makes sense as he gets free one time transfer and this year does not count so he will still have 5 years to play 4.

How Georgia would it be for him to light it up now? Maybe even go pro after 5 stepper games!

Sure will be nice to have a first rate QB starting in Charlotte on September 4. With three or four competent backups? The Dawgs QB roster will be stacked, right?
Right?!
This season ain’t over yet.

Covid – what if covid continues to cause games to be cancelled and the SEC is forced to cancel the SECCG and Florida gets screwed out of their day in the sun. That is the only thing I can think of that is positive.

Not if it “screws” them into a playoff spot. I suppose if A&M keeps winning that won’t happen but I’d just as soon see Alabama 123 UF -3.

The amount of angst this is causing amongst the doom n gloomers is immeasurable. Is the timing of his readiness pure coincidence or did Kirby somehow 100% Justin Fields this situation? Was this about not running off Vandagriff? There are some ideas out there.
