Rattled

Shane Beamer shoots and scores.

No, this doesn’t turn South Carolina into a SEC championship contender overnight.  But this

As a redshirt sophomore, Rattler completed 74.9% of his pass attempts for 1,483 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine games. He was replaced in the starting lineup by freshman Caleb Williams, who was a second-team All-Big 12 selection.

As a freshman in 2020, Rattler threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns with seven interceptions in 11 games, leading the Sooners to their sixth consecutive conference title and a win over Florida in the Cotton Bowl.

… is certainly a significant upgrade over what they were dragging off the bench to play quarterback this season.  One might even call it a cannon shot.

As a bonus, there’s another Oklahoma player heading to Columbia who looks like a keeper.

Stogner caught just 14 passes in 2021 for Oklahoma, following a bout with staph infection in his leg as he worked his way back to full health this year.

Before his injury, the then sophomore tight end was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection with 26 receptions for 422 yards and three scores.

All in all, were I a ‘Cock fan, I’d be a little jazzed up about this.  Say what you will, a little free agency can be a good thing for a program.

The Cocks may finally have a competent head coach. Could make this series way more interesting. He’s certainly more likeable than the other assholes they have had over in Columbia.

Rattler comes off as toxic in QB1. I guess time will tell how he does at USCjr but he won’t have 5* WRs to throw to there.

  3. Interesting. Thus far, it’s just been the rich getting richer.

  4. Beamer is no fool. He knows he has to upgrade the talent across the board, and he gets if you have a former Heisman candidate available, you go get him. Taking Rattler is a calculated risk, but what else can Beamer do. There is clearly a path with him where if they are patient, they could become the 2nd best program in the East.

I’m curious if Rattler kept both the Dodge car and truck he earned from the Oklahoma dealer. Maybe he could trade them both both for one of those pimpn’ Ford Raptors.

This is a much different news story if you live in a backwater without internet access and have no idea what happened to the 2021 Oklahoma Sooners.

Which means South Carolina fans must be THRILLED.

LMFAO! These are the same folks that used to cuss Spurrier as orange trash, hired him and genuflected to him weekly for ten years and now curse him again. High expectations with low standards, that’s the Lamecocks. Beamer will be gone from there inside five years.

He came off as pretty toxic to me, but since there’s nobody to take his job at USC, he might just work out. His talent will obviously be a massive upgrade. Beamer is doing a good job so far.

Lol. Venables heads to Oklahoma, Oklahoma becomes a talent pipeline to SoCar. Just gets better and better, doesn’t it, Clemson?

Rattler doesn’t see the field very well, compounded by some slow mechanics. Pretty easy to figure out where he’s going to go (vision) and when he’s going to go there (winding up…). That said, Riley’s offense really seems to require a guy who can scamper – it was at its best with Baker, Kyler, and Jalen. Rattler’s not that. If he can get good QB coaching and learn to trust his pocket and anticipation, his arm will do the rest. Maybe he goes full Kenny Pickett: the light bulb goes on, and he flips from average P5 QB to Heisman Finalist. Pretty rare to see that, though.

Go Cocks! (in the spirit of “Beat Clemson”)

  9. I got in order SCAR, KY, UT, gators, Mizzou, Vandy next season. I see Beamer growing. Not buying into Stoops able to improve over where he’s at now. UT will put a beat down on Napier. Mizzou may be in the market for another coach next winter and somebody just needs to sit Vandy down and explain that it’s time to consider a new career.

This is a huge get for Beamer, and his timing is good. Outside of Athens, the SEC East is up for grabs. Beamer’s roster should be ahead of Napier’s in 2022.

If the Cocks upset Arkansas in week 2 of the season next year, be sure to get out your ear plugs because there will be cannon shots all week leading up to our game at the Willy B in week 3.

I’m definitely grateful that we’re back to playing them earlier in the season so we can shut them the hell up earlier. Never has so much been said by a group that has done so little. The Cock Rattler isn’t going to change that.

Especially without a play caller or any semblance of an OL. Rattler will be running for his life.

We’ll see about o-line going forward. My son signs with the Cocks tomorrow morning and we are pumped! Go Cocks! They will have at least one mean son of a gun on that line as soon as he gets there. We’ll see how it goes with SC but we love Beamer and are hopeful for my son’s future there. As I’ve said before, I’m a Dawg for life but a Cock for the next 4 or 5 years.

  11. A lot of folks seem far too convinced that the East always belongs to UGA, what with us failing to reach the SECCG in 2020. The 2022 defense will not be that of the 2021 team, and we still have massive QB questions (I’ll go on record as saying if the Dawgs right the ship and we win the 2021 Nat, slipping in the East will be easily forgiven by me).

Rattler was impressive yet frustrating at OU, and he had maturity issues. A 19 year old kid? Whaaaaaaaaat? Maybe Beamer can fix those, who knows. A lot of people claimed DK had attitude/tackling problems coming over from Clemson. Haven’t seen them materialize for the Red and Black. A lot of those issues are often environmental … nurture vs nature, etc.

Stogner is a straight up PROBLEM at TE. He’s not Brock Bowers.. but he’s in the mold. Big, Physical, Athletic. Couple that with the fact that the most likely QB1 on the USC roster has an established relationship with him, and he’s all the more dangerous. Having a great bail-out TE on 3rd/long can transform a team just by allowing its offense to stay on the field.

I’m not saying USC is suddenly going to win the East because of these things.. but I will say that they are more likely to give UGA problems as a result. Games can be won and lost on just a few plays made or missed – and bringing in these two dudes swings a few more into the “made” column for SoCar.

Even with these guys coming on board for the Cocks.. they will still need a bigger boat.
