Forget it, Jake. It’s the Georgia Way.

Hanky panky, at 280 grand a year:

Josh Lee has resigned as Georgia’s director of football operations amid an investigation by UGA’s Equal Opportunity Office (EOO). The investigation concerned allegations of sexual harassment, according to persons familiar with the situation.

In a statement sent to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution late Monday afternoon in response to requests for comment, Georgia Athletics would confirm only that Lee had resigned “to pursue other professional opportunities” and declined further comment.

However, in its response to the AJC’s open records request seeking documentation, UGA cited a state policy [OCGA 50-18-72 (a)(8)] that keeps “material obtained in investigations related to suspension, firing or investigation of complaints” exempt from open records review until 10 days after the matter has been concluded.

Well, that’s certainly convenient.

The sexual harassment shit isn’t part of the Georgia Way, of course.  But this is:

Lee is alleged to have sent inappropriate text messages to at least one of his direct reports over a period of time, according to several individuals with knowledge of the proceedings. The AJC was told that the accusations were brought to Brooks’ attention in early October and that he immediately turned the matter over to the EOO. However, as recently as last week, Lee accompanied UGA personnel on scouting trips to the College Football Playoff sites.

I can’t wait to hear the explanation — assuming we ever get one, that is — as to why he was allowed to stay on the job, as opposed to, say, being suspended with pay pending further investigation, after the matter came to Brooks’ attention.  In the meantime, all I can say is that the Georgia Way protects its own until it can’t.

At least there will be no explanation as to why “those panties” are in your lap…

It’s an easy rule… If you can’t say it to your mama, you likely can’t say it to a woman, especially in a working environment.

Goodbye $280,000 a year ‘cake’ job – hello unemployment for a reason that makes you damn near unemployable.

  6. Disappointing post here, Senator. It’s easy to take pot shots from the cheap seats when we do not have the whole picture. It may be as bad as you want to imagine, it may not be. Either way, these are real people and real readers who are reading un-helpful peanut gallery comments on Christmas week. Maybe wait until the facts come out before casting stones.

    • What “facts” are you referring to? The physical texts that Brooks saw? The school’s response to the open records request? Lee’s departure after working there for several years?

      • The facts are 1. He resigned; 2. He is alleged to have sent “inappropriate text messages” to at least one direct report; 3. Brooks knew in October, and immediately followed protocol and turned it over to EOO.

Your post suggests the content of the investigation was 1. Egregious enough to have demanded immediate dismissal, 2. Mishandled in some way by the AD by not doing (1); 3. Equates the situation to a sordid office affair from years ago that blew up families; and 4. Opens comments to anonymous people to make shitty comments that will surely be read by the people involved and their families.

Nothing about this post was helpful or insightful. The news here is that UGA’s main guy in terms of handling all logistics for travel is gone two weeks before the playoff and maybe 3 weeks before the NC. The extra stuff is just hair salon gossip.

Here’s what I actually wrote, as opposed to suggesting: “I can’t wait to hear the explanation — assuming we ever get one, that is — as to why he was allowed to stay on the job, as opposed to, say, being suspended with pay pending further investigation, after the matter came to Brooks’ attention.”

I didn’t equate the “situation” to Crumley’s actions. I did equate the athletic department’s attempt to keep the “situation” under wraps here with what McGarity did with Crumley. Big difference.

As for the rest of your diatribe, I can think of one obvious way to avoid your “hair salon gossip” and that would be for B-M to issue a formal statement about Lee’s departure. By the way, wouldn’t the stated reason for not responding to the open records request be a fact?

Ryan: are you telling me he made $280,000/year and had the same responsibilities as George Costanza!?

Sign me up for that job.

😂😂😂 remember when George had to hire an assistant and he turned down the ones that were gorgeous to hire a very homely looking assistant?

He also did sleep with the cleaning lady and his infamous response was, “Is that frowned upon? Is that not allowed?” 🤣

I think he’s saying that maybe the university won’t look bad once all the facts come out. I hope that’s the case.

They get 10 days to respond, but only once any matter is “concluded”. Translation: “uga is able to drag it out & release this news whenever we want, such as after early signing period is over, and right before Xmas when no one is paying attention.
