Holy Mother of Crap, you’ve got to watch this just concluded Jimbo Fisher press conference to believe it.  He didn’t just burn bridges between him and Saban, he nuked the entire planet from orbit.

This quote…

Just damn.

REC is going to make what happened to hugh freeze look like child’s play when they go after jumbo.
however REC has no idea of the cult in College station that they are about to attack as they aren’t the barn or ole piss.

100%. I’m not surprised Jimbo is in the position he’s in, same spot Hugh Freeze was a few years ago, defiantly pushing back against cheating allegations about an absurd recruiting class. But it’s odd Saban is the other party. Usually he takes the high road and let’s lesser coaches squabble it out. Maybe that’s Kirby’s role now. Or maybe Saban realizes Jimbos moves aren’t cheating anymore, he’s less likely to implode than Freeze was, and Saban thinks he’s got to put public pressure on for a change. Gotta think Saban knows what he’s doing, but these are interesting times, maybe the game has finally passed him by.

I don’t think it’s passed Saba by. I think it’s more “I have to compete with fucking Texas A&M, now?”
I like the new noncorporate speak Saban. I hope he keeps focusing on this type of stuff and not “the process.”

I don’t even think that it is that Saban is pissed that he has to compete with A&M. I think that it is that Saban knows that he has to compete with a group of boosters with far more money than Bama’s boosters who certainly appear to be breaking the rules against enticing kids to sign with A&M under the guise of NIL deals. I am kind of surprised that he didn’t mention Tennessee’s collective and their $8MM deal as well.

If the NIL rule allows boosters, fans or whomever to pay a recruit any amount they want to get said recruit to their school of choice. Why is Jimbo acting like nobody at A&M is paying kids and their families? The Jimbo he doth protest too much. Just own it your money guys won’t be outspent by other schools. The egos and desire there have the really big money needed to make that happen. I’m sure no regular fan of CFB is surprised the A&M boosters are trying to purchase the best players possible like other schools. In recruiting some schools always have advantages now it’s Jimbo time. Maybe the surprise is the lack of results so far. Jimbo is already feeling the heat of not winning even a West division championship.

There will be similar comments coming today from Deion Sanders as well after Nick went scorched earth on A&M, Jackson State and The U yesterday in whatever it was that he was speaking at. Nick said that A&M “bought” their class, Jackson State “bought” Travis Hunter, and The U booster bought those basketball players (and brags about it in the media) before commenting that everyone knows that it is against the rules to entice a player to sign with a school with NIL but the NCAA is powerless to enforce them.

When I heard his comments on the radio this morning on 680, Hutson Mason chimed in that he was having a conversation recently with his HS coach from Lassiter who is now the OC at UCF under Gus. Hutson said that he asked the coach which was damaging the sport more…NIL or the transfer rules. His former coach responded that it was neither. It was the collectives that are blatantly breaking the improper benefits rules by promising kids NIL deals if they sign with their school.

When attempting to respond to accusations (using a limited vocabulary), true or otherwise may seem like a admission of wrong doing and or guilt, if you can’t stand the pressure, don’t do a presser…

We don’t know the truth of who is right in this, but we don’t have to know – we just have to stay out of it. I will say that to me Jimbo sounds a lot like Hugh Freeze – ‘if you have evidence, report us’ as I was listening. What kind of man says stuff like that about 17 year olds with families? Um Jimbo, I don’t think Nick is talking about 17 year olds so much as the coaches that enable them.

    • JoeDashDawg

Yeah I thought something similar – Saban wasn’t bashing the kids – just the school/collective that was using enticement to get them to sign with A&M.

I also see Jimbo’s point of “Dodge Chargers don’t fall out of the sky in Tuscaloosa” or whatever analogy he chose to use

I get strong “the lady doth protest too much, methinks” vibes from Jimbo. I don’t know who’s right or wrong here, but I’ve heard more rumblings about the way Jimbo runs a “clean” program vs the way Saban does. Either way, I’m enjoying the drama!

The unstated tension is that so many in that business are covered in shit and you can tell that when anyone gets out of line, the response tends to be: “do YOU really want to go there? I know that you know that we’re both dirty as fuck so lets just shut up and coach our teams and let some other folks figure out rules and enforcement.”

Perhaps, but I didn’t read his comment as an attack on Bowden as much as a call back to J. Winston and Free Seafood University. I grew up in North Florida in the 70’s and thought the world of Bobby Bowden, (Heck, I loved anyone who could compete with UF) but “Free Shoes University” is a meme for a reason.

Right, CowetaDawg. The loss to the Dawgs, plus the regular season loss to A&M along with the deserved criticism of his failure to develop receiver and secondary depth has put Saban in an unusual position. He’s being openly criticized by former sycophants. Saban throwing his players under the bus immediately following the NC loss to the Dawgs, 33-18 in case y’all forgot, leads me to believe he’s developing a siege mentality. This Kiffin-like behavior he’s displaying is likely part of a desperate plan. Hell, Nick doesn’t go to the gas station without a plan.
Speaking of Kiffin, that little smartass is wise to keep his cock holster shut. Puppies best piss on the porch when the big dogs are fighting.

      Love your avatar, CowetaDawg.

  18. I hope Saban commits a hate crime on Jimbo this season. If you’ve never been around A&M folks, believe me: cult is the correct word.

Jimbo is an insufferable blowhard and A&M is the worst.

The SEC screwed us out of having the Auburn game in its traditional place in late November. But they had BETTER not screw us by having this year’s Auburn game take place in the same time slot as the Alabama-A&M game because I MUST be able to watch every single second of that one with a very large drink in my hand.

Jimbo is going to get Mullen’d after their game with Bama this year. It’ll be a point of pride for the Aggies to pay his buyout after Bama puts 50 on them and Saban has Ric Flair type promo after the game.

  27. Listening to jimbo makes me feel a need for a shower. The more he screams “I don’t lie & I don’t cheat” the more I dislike him. Don’t really understand Sabans goal in this scorched earth approach but I don’t think his comments were spur of the moment. He thinks carefully about everything he does & says, at least to this point in his career. Are cracks showing or does he have an end game he’s playing for? Interested to see how this plays out. Either way, it’s more entertaining than the usual talking season fare!

This is not good for the SEC or college football . The rules of the game have changed.
    Adapt or Die.
Saban did not like the offensive spread and up tempo, ranted about it, but eventually changed. He needs to change.
Hope Kirby, the Georgia legislature, and collective rapidly Adapt.
