  1. I honestly wonder whose name gets mentioned more on that site, Saban’s or Kirby’s.

I don’t see any wide receivers listed here.

By the time the downfall they think this early indicator predicts comes to fruition, their head coach very well may be living in Rabun County full-time.

Losing to UGA in the national championship game is KILLING them. And I am LOVING it.

Did they get this twisted in knots over Clemson?

Or how about when they lost to an unranked A&M team.

      • Yes, the first time because on the game winning play the Clemson WR (Renfroe?) got open when the outside receiver set an (according to ‘Bama) illegal pick.

The second time was a pretty big ass-kicking, so they didn’t whine as much.

They’re extra salty about UGA because of Kirby and whatever BS they want to hold against him for some recruiting intel he left Tuscaloosa with. They also wanted Dabo as the eventual coach whenever Saban retires. Not sure if that’s still the case

Agree, that Kirby & DAWGS doing fine, but NIL has changed the game.

I agree. In spite of Saban’s whining about other programs’ strategies, every indication is that Bama’s NIL machine is up and running as good if not better than everyone. There’s no more of a shortage of rabid deep pocketed Bama boosters than in any other program. They’re understandably spoiled on success and want to keep it going, just as we are becoming. He and CKS both like to question the NIL landscape while simultaneously dropping subtle, not so subtle, hints about their own.

While I don’t think that UGA’s NIL effort sucks, I’m not convinced it’s as competitive as it needs to be, at least yet. Consequently, although there are more than a few reasons that those recent in-state kids probably chose the Tide, I suspect that a more robust NIL sales job made more than just a little difference.

      • The Haynes and Downs families don’t need the money. Their fathers are a former professional player and a current college coach. Apparently, the 2 of them want to play together, and for some reason, Downs has never really considered UGA. Haynes is following along.

With all of that said, it’s troubling that all of the top 5 players in the state are currently heading out of state.

        • I’ll say this the kid from Brookwood would probably be coming to Georgia if we hadn’t gone all in on Arch. We don’t need a QB in this class, so it wasn’t a huge deal.

For the most part I wouldn’t disagree with that except to say that the tendencies I have observed within sports for pay is that rarely does anyone seem to ever say they have plenty of money and therefore admirably make their decisions based on things otherwise. We see that time and time again when athletes who already have multi-generational money still simply choose the highest bidder for their next contract. A prime recent example is Freddy Freeman, who played too close to that fire and got burnt.

So, yes, there are other important factors, but at least IMO, NIL is reasonably assumed to be already a HUGE and growing factor in these recruitment cases. And just to be clear, I’m really not judging it as right or wrong, yet admittedly making assumptions, especially so in these particular cases.

Also, the transfer rule makes these decisions inherently less binding, such that an athlete could in theory be more enticed by a higher NIL potential realizing that if it doesn’t work out as expected, option B is relatively easy to move on to. Sorry, but I guess I’m just of the jaded opinion that most folks have a problem leaving money on the table.

          • Comparing a MLB player who is probably on his last big contract to a high school senior is a stretch.

I just think the fact they appear to be best friends and want to play together seems to have driven this decision. I can’t imagine (no matter what Verron put on social media after the commitment) that he’s ecstatic about his son’s decision.

Money’s just as green at all levels. I’d suggest that the appeal of hundreds of $1000 to a wide-eyed HS senior is probably about equal as multi-millions to a grownup pro.

I remember some ol ball sack sneering about what happens to all those 5⭐️ that go to Georgia. Now I’m seeing 3⭐️ who go to Georgia being drafted in the first round. I’m sure Kirby will do just fine with the players he signs.

I agree on everything being said about Kirby owning the vast open spaces between the ears of the folks at RBR, but…it is more than a little concerning that the defending national champion, who just put 15 players in the NFL, isn’t closing the deal with the very best players closest to home. We can show them the current recruiting rankings, but I’ll bet by the end of the cycle, Bama is back on top. Not that the rankings themselves matter when it comes to ranking 1 through 4, but still.

    • Q, I took a look at a couple of things on 24/7.

      1) Aguero is just as good of a player as Downs (Downs is #1 at his position, but Aguero is #4)
      2) Haynes – he is the gut punch, but is he a Chubb, Gurley or Robinson type of player?
      3) Burley – we always seem to lose an in-state blue chip to Clemson. At this time last year, I believe Mykel Williams was committed to USC.
      4) Lonergan – as stated above, we were only going to take Manning as a QB in this class
      5) Davis – Spurlin out of Florida is more highly rated

Haynes is the only surprise in this group. RBR with Eric with a K and a smoke shop still doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Georgia’s on pace to finish with another top 3 class and may end up 1. I don’t understand fretting over not getting some kids in Georgia if you’re signing players just as good or better from somewhere else.

      • What RBR doesn’t show is that we have commitments from 3 of the next 5 in the Georgia rankings. Throw in that we have a commitment from a 5-star DB from Phenix City and are definitely in the mix for the #1 player in Alabama big DT (#2 at his position) and the #5 player (#3 overall edge) from Carver Montgomery. We could do some serious damage in Alabama.

The state of Alabama has 7 5-stars in this class. Georgia has 1.

  11. Boy that little Gump sure likes to rattle the cages…my ideal scenario for this season would be if Bama get’s at least 1 regular season loss, and then loses to GA in the SECC, and then UGA wins another natty w/o Bama even being in the cfp…and we just smash their arrogant faces in it over and over and over and over and over again…Bama is rapidly climbing my hate thermometer…for me, they have surpassed Auburn

The scale of the Atl beat down needs to be the reason they don’t make the field with two losses so some shitty PAC 12 or Big 12 champion gets in with only one loss.

Then they go on to whatever “New Years 6” with a bunch of opt outs and lose to a motivated G5 team. Or like Michigan or some other perennial also-ran.
