“New Year’s Day” bowl game doesn’t mean what it used to…

not when the Liberty Bowl gets moved to a time slot in front of the Sugar Bowl.

Last year (and the year before that I think) they had the International and GMAC bowls between the Orange and BCS NC game. What the heck is that?
There are too many bowl games if you ask me. I mean 32 bowl games is ridiculous. The bowl season starts in early December and by the time the BCS bowls get here you’re burnt out. Plus how is a 6-6 team deserving of a bowl game?

32 bowl games is not too many. How else could GT get to play in a post-season game and give us something to laugh at?

Very good point 68. I stand corrected.

I have to say I’m annoyed with they way they are moving bowl games around these days. It used to be that the date of a bowl game was indicative of its prestige, i.e. the last bowl game was the Championship, but this past season the GMAC bowl took place on Jan. 6th. The GMAC bowl is supposed to be something you can watch on Christmas after you’ve opened all the presents to take your mind off of how badly the extended family is getting on your nerves. They’ve totally ruined the way it’s supposed to work.

And I agree, there are far too many bowls, and they’re adding bowls every year. Bowls are supposed to be a chance for good teams to get one last awesome match-up, but now they’ve got what I like to call “sympathy bowls” where they invite teams that “tried hard” to give them the chance to at least be on TV. Before long every team will go to a bowl game and they’ll become totally meaningless.
