ZOMG!! RICHARD SAMUEL FUMBLED!!!!
There ain’t much to take out of the early goings, but, nevertheless, I’ll try:
- The defense is ahead of the offense, generally speaking.
- Contrary to the happy talk on the subject, there isn’t much depth at wide receiver.
- Judging from the tackles numbers (dominated by the linebackers; no mention of safeties), the defensive line may be doing its job.
- The second team offensive line is about what you’d expect/fear.
That is all. Fret on.
Thankfully the Dawgs came out of this one with a win.

Scrimmages are the perfect embodiment of a zero sum gain. People were wringing their hands over the number of sacks the defense got. Of course, if there were no sacks it would not bring about praise of the pass pro by the 2nd string OL. Rather, it would be sky is falling prophecies and wailing and gnashing of teeth over lack of pressure from the D. Can’t tell much, one way or the other, until you line it up in the Dome.

All you gotta do is bring in Mike Leach and throw enough money at VanGorder to get him to leave the NFL and coordinate the defense, and you’re set.

When I saw everyone on Samuel about the fumble I was shocked. This young man is out there working his tail off trying to do good for the team, after being jerked around like Tripp while going back and forth from RB to LB and back to RB, and these people want to complain. I guess the ball couldn’t have been stripped by a great play from the defense. LIGHTEN UP. To quote Allen Iverson “We’re talking ’bout practice” and I know you practice like you play but come on. How about everytime you “drop the ball” at home or at work post it on the internet and let us berate and belittle you. Okay who is next on the soap box.

Forgot to mention that he hasn’t played RB in nearly 2 years. I would expect some rust; in fact, I expected a lot more rust than a 6 ypc average and 1 fumble. Good on you, RS.

Cousin Eddie, all of us have an instinctive bristlin’ when we see such crud, but you have to first think of the poster as being 90% a troller. If he really considers himself a Dawg, he will have a long and sad season brought on by his own thinking. If you let him affect your season, then you are responsible. Are you going to let a troller determine whether or not you will have a good time watching the Dawgs this year? Hope not.
When and if we have our first loss, the trollers ratchet it up. Win or lose, the Dawgs are our team, warts and all. Many bloggers are jealous that we have a lot to cheer about and will do anything to take away from that. Don’t let’em.

Thanks for the encouragement. I was just thinking about the players really (and future recruits). The kind of guys that rips a player for a fumble would be the kind to boo them at a game, if you want to do that go to NFL games were the players are paid (or Auburn). The only think that effects my enjoyment of a season is my wife saying “Why are you yelling at the TV, they can’t hear you” or “turn down the TV,” well other than the loses.

Yeah, but at least your ears weren’t ringing such that you can’t hear the QB signals.
I have the same habits until my wife suggests that I mow the lawn or make a repair. Then I get quiet and thankfully nurse my beer(s).
And that’s why it’s so much better to be in the stands with all the other crazies.

Oh! And the dogs run for cover. Thankfully, they don’t pee on the carpet. Gotta find a way to get Fannie Mae and Priscilla in the stadium with me. Except Fannie Mae’s droopy ole’ Black and Tan eyes would make you think it’s 4th and 50 on every down.

I’m not going to freak out about the fumble. I will mention that tiny Jacquizz Rodgers – now in the Falcons camp, never fumbled as a 3 year starter at OSU. He says the RB coach taught him not to fumble. Yes, fumbles are a part of the game. But it’s not as if nothing can be done about the problem.

Think Jacquiz Rodgers would have fumbled in the SEC? Jus wondrin’.

Oh, boy! When we fire Richt then their coach would quit them and come right on over. Suuurre.

And then he can teach all of our running backs not to fumble too. None of the other backs at Oregon State fumble either, right?

Folks, we have some S&C work ahead of us as fans. We have to cheer together through wins AND losses. Leave the coaching staff to the AD and enjoy your season. Waxing on about your great administrative abilities concerning hire and fire only lets many of us know that you have never been responsible for such in your life. If you were responsible for people you wouldn’t try to prove it on here by calling for the staff’s jobs. As anyone knows who has had that responsibility, when you have to fire someone it is an admission that you failed as well or you wouldn’t have to do it.
When I say S&C, I’m referring to what’s in your heart for this team. Comfort the impact of a loss by knowing the individuals struggling on the field and feel for them first. A fan does that. Your sense of fairness for each individual player should be tempered by considering that they are in a long fight where they can see stars and get blindsided with no warning. They have to get up and march back to the huddle and let the assholes target them again. He is trained to go back out and separate the other asshole from his shoes on each play. WE should have the resolve to do the same with our emotions and get ready for the next play, not get depressed.
I’m calling on all fans early to back this team through thick and thin in order that they might do the same for themselves. S&C our hearts for a season-long haul and let the chips fall where they may
at year’s end. First, assess what’s in your heart. You may discover that you may need preseason surgery. Otherwise, vent in your bathroom, not in public. We don’t wanna’ hear it and we will view such activities as trollin’.
