Thursday morning buffet

Rise and shine, campers.

  • Looking to learn a little about Georgia’s first SEC opponent this coming season?  Seth Emerson gets some answers out of a Missouri beat writer for you.
  • Speaking of Missouri, Gary Pinkel is a little bit of a dreamer.
  • No doubt you’ll be surprised to learn that no progress was made yesterday on the SEC scheduling front.
  • You know, this might work“Greg McGarity suggested last week on Barnhart and Durham on WQXI 790 The Zone in Atlanta that the conference could play six divisional games, one permanent cross-division game and then rotate single cross-division games on a six-year cycle.”  It has the virtue of saving the big rivalry games.  As for the rest, TV would be fine with it, even if it’s not any better for the fans attending games.
  • Alamo Bowl official thinks there’s nothing wrong with bowl ratings that the calendar and avoiding a rematch in the title game can’t fix.
  • What is it with Texas Tech head coaches and lawsuits?
  • Given that Obama has reiterated his support for a college football playoff, I guess we can expect the Republican party to come out strongly against it any minute now.
  • Here’s a little something I bet you didn’t know about the Butler family:  “Dad was called ‘Butthead,’ ” the younger Butler said, with obvious pride. “Everybody just calls me ‘Butt.’ I don’t know what the deal is with that. But it’s just Butt for me.”  Beavis was already taken, I suppose.

Just like Costanza did his best doing the opposite, we as a country will ALWAYS be in good shape doing the opposite of what The Anointed One thinks is best.

Senator, do you suppose Newt Gingrich thinks a playoff would be “Right-wing Social Engineering”?

I’m keeping my eye on Obama. Before you know it he will unionize the players, demand that the SEC split its revenues with the lesser conferences to make it fair and move the playoffs to China to stimulate the airline industry.

Gary Pinkel has some Damon issues, so I would not put too much stock in anything he says. (A DUI, but no panties.)

If we’re going to skip a divisional opponent, then we need to lock in one permanent divisional opponent, too, because I’m not giving up Georgia-Florida.

Scorpio the Third has apparently never operated his motor vehicle after consuming alcohol. There but for the grace of God…..

Imagine what fun we would have missed if UGA stopped playing gt after the nerds left the SEC. I hate to see old rivalries fall by the wayside.

I don’t want to sound like a broken record but…Mizzou is 25-5 in Columbia since 2007 and they finished with four straight wins last season whereas the Dawgs lost their last two. Mizzou lost close games to Baylor (3 points) and Texas Tech (4 points), two teams that they normally beat. Missouri could easily have had a 10 win season last year and has been averaging 9 wins a year since Pinkle arrived. The Missouri team reminds me a lot of Florida during the Meyer days only without as much team speed and depth. This game ain’t gonna be easy.

Using your logic…. we lost to uSC by 3 and MState by 3. So Georgia could have had 12 wins last season.Coulda- woulda- shoulda- they had 10. And MIzzou had five losses. They were beaten by Arizona State for goodness sakes a 7 loss team. That’s like Kentucky(7 loss team) beating the dogs last year. Georgia beats Mizzou by 10.

    • Again I agree with the Mayor. Playing their first SEC game, a home game, i think they would have a legitimate shot at beating ANY SEC TEAM they played (including the Dawgs),
I think MIzzou, USCe, & the Dawgs, all 3, have a team capable of winning the SEC East. Playing Mizzou & USCe will be the biggest stumbling blocks for the Dawgs to win the East.

39, the Gators may be better than everybody expects, too. UGA’s ’12 conference schedule isn’t going to be as easy as some are saying. I still believe the Dawgs will come out on top–it just won’t be a cakewalk.
