When the time comes-and it will-that an SEC team gets to play this guy-he needs to be taken to the woodshed-I hope it is Georgia-who ever gets the opportunity,They will have a lot of Volunteers pulling hard for them.
I do not like Tennessee but I share their Zeal in wanting justice for what he did to them.

the rest of the SEC should be sending Lane fruit baskets for helping UT become the second rate program it now is. Far as I’m concerned, they had it coming for hiring him, and the fact that he delights in tweaking them even now is just comedy gold. If SoCal ever played them, I’d be wearing Trojan red and pulling for a blowout.

As for Tennessee, may they continue to wallow in the mud they dragged themselves down into then they hired him.

UT wallowed in the mud way before that. Hiring Kiffin and his baggage was just another in a long line of less than tasteful activities at the University of Trailorpark. How about when their longtime coach, Johnny Majors (probably the most decorated player in UT history), was hospitalized for heart problems and the UT team started the season winning under the chief assistant, then when the HC got better physically and came back and they lost a couple of games the UT faithful all screamed for him to be fired–and the UT brass did it! I always thought karma was going to get them for doing that. It just took a little longer. Here’s hoping that their stay in the cellar is permanent.

What he did to them? Give me a break, dude. I have zero sympathy for Tennessee. They knew what they were getting, they knew what he was, and they had absolutely ZERO problem with it and defended the man right up until he announced he was leaving. They got what they deserved.

And last time I checked, nobody was holding a gun to Mike Hamilton’s head to make him hire a mid-major coach with a mediocre record and no proven ability to win at any level.

YEAH – that midlevel coach certainly kicked our butts – with less talent. Say what you will – he played Florida better than we did – almost beat Alabama – and kicked our butts.
Kiffin is a jerk – but he outcoached Richt is one of the more embarrassing games ever in the Richt era..

Yeah the Dawgs got outcoached in ’09 but it was Kiffin outcoaching Willie Martinez. The specific thing was the roll-out passing attack. The UGA D-linemen couldn’t get to the UT QB because of the unanticipated roll-out attack and the UGA D-backs couldn’t cover because of shitty schemes. Pure willie. I don’t blame Richt for that loss. I blame Willie. The only thing CMR did wrong was not to fire Willie sooner.

I hope our current coaching staff remembers this fact when we play Allbarn. CWM can’t adjust for shat. (Tennessee is stillllll rolling out).

Won’t matter. Willie is a competent defensive backs coach, and he won’t be in charge of adjusting to anything when we play Auburn. That’s Van Gorder’s job, and he’s pretty good at it.

I’m not as sure as you are about that. There are plenty of teams that have fallen off the mountain top never to return. Incredible as it may seem Minnesota won a whole lot of national titles in the first half of the 20th Century. Look at them now, fighting with Indiana to be the bottom team in the Big 10. Army was unstoppable in the 40s. Navy was big time too back then. We are in the middle of a transition in the SEC right now. If Mizzou turns out to be better than UT then the Vols get pushed down one more notch. If Vandy improves a little the Vols could easily be #6 out of 7 in the SEC East. If Texas A&M is better that UT (and I think that is a virtual certainty) the Vols could find themselves ahead of only UK in the entire SEC. The State of Tennessee is not a high population state. It does not have particularly good HS football, either. UT has been doing it forever using out of state kids, particularly from Georgia. If the OOS kids decide that UT is not such a great place to go anymore….well, you get the picture.

Agree completely with you. Tennessee doesn’t enjoy a fertile recruiting base, they have to go to Georgia and Florida for those players. Problem is, there isn’t a recruit alive who remembers a time when Tennessee was more prestigious than Georgia or Florida, so an offer to come play at UT means about as much as an offer from South Carolina or Miss. State. Worse for them, Knoxville isn’t exactly a destination that’s going to wow the kids they’re trying to recruit, either. I know they want to think of themselves as the USC of the East coast, but Knoxville is no Los Angeles.

I feel your hate–just saying–I hope somebody from the SEC gets a shot at him—those of you thinking Tennessee football will never come back are in lala land–no they don’t play great HS football–no they do not have a huge population–and let me get this straight–I DO NOT LIKE THEM–however their fan base is huge with deep pockets–if you don’t think they will ever again be formidable-you are dreaming-(hoping-wishing)

Of course Tennessee will one day be a formidable foe again. Florida will, too, maybe as early as this year. We’re enjoying Tennessee’s misfortunes, just as they enjoyed taking advantage of the Ray Goff setback for Georgia. Georgia plays in the SEC, so we can reasonably expect all of our competitors to be damn good most years. It’s just fun to make fun of their suffering when their teams are terrible.

A college football team is like an ocean liner. Once it gets started going in a certain direction it takes an awful lot to turn it around and head in the opposite direction. UGA under Goff never sunk to the depths of 2008-2011 UT (i.e. 4 games under .500 over that period). UT has had a losing season 3 out of the last 4 years and the one winning season was 7-6. HS kids don’t remember 1998. They don’t even remember 2007–that’s all ancient history. IMHO UT is in real danger of becoming like UK. It has no natural in state base of football talent. Its coach has only had one winning season in his 5 year career and that was 8-5 in a mid-major conference. If UT has a bad season this year and they fire SOD then they will have to start all over again and this will last another 2-3 years at best for them. If SOD manages to pull a winning season out this year (say 7-6 or 8-5) and they keep him, that actually is better for UGA in the long run IMHO as SOD has demonstrated that he can’t coach and they will be mired in mediocrity as long as he is there. Bad time to be a Vols fan.

As they sat on their hands and let Foolmer lose control of the program for lack of discipline, the longer they wait to get things on the right track (and Junior followed by SOD aren’t the right direction) the more likely they are to wait over 20 years before their next SEC title. They are well on the way now, 14 years and counting, with little chance for the near future.

Here’s a simple exercise. Imagine that Tennessee hired James Franklin instead of Derek Dooley. UT would already be back. All it takes at UT is a coach who can excite recruits and coach moderately well, and that stadium of 100K+ will be full to the brim and they’ll be rolling. They will always be either a juggernaut or a juggernaut in waiting.
