Incomplete

Chase Stuart has a follow up to his college passer rating post that I mentioned last week in which he looks at the top passing quarterback seasons from 2005 through 2012.

Aaron Murray’s 2012 performance ranks eighth on his list.  Combine that with his standing in a variety of passer statistics compiled since 2000, and it seems to me you can make a case that Murray’s been one of the best passers in the SEC in the last decade.  Nor has he been too shabby on a national level.

Agree or disagree?  And why?

    Or, those standings in shorthand…

    1) Heisman
    2) System
    3) System
    4) Heisman
    5) Heisman
    6) System
    7) System
    8) Murray

Passing yds/attempt and total yds/play are big QB assessment categories for the impact of any QB. Aaron is 1st in both categories for 2012, both in the NCAA and the SEC. If he improves again in the next year as he has for each career year thus far, old CFB records will fall everywhere in every category. His and Bobo’s great elan for plays should pop to the fore early this Fall. Evidence of Murray becoming master of his craft is my reason for agreement with you.

Noticed the running yds coming down incrementally each yr that transcribes into Aaron’s safety from injury.Suppose Bobo will turn him loose this year or clutch him ever closer? I’m betting he will turn him loose to run this year. In most games next season, the O line can give him both protection and running room up the middle. His good runs of the past may be long forgotten by some, but rather constitutes part of the milieu that affects my judgement of his body of work. Would love to see it return.

Now if he could just beat out AJ McCarron or even Trent Dilfer.

He’s gotta quit throwing picks and struggling in the big games. That’s the bottom line to his breakthrough for national respect. All the stats you put out there tell one side of the story. Yes, he had a great season and has put up incredible numbers. However, he struggles in the biggest games. His performance against Alabama hopefully reflects on what he’ll pull off this upcoming season.

And Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino.

Whatever, there’s a reason Murray will be 3rd team preseason SEC and hasn’t gotten a lick of Heisman consideration from the national media. And it’s why he wasn’t on the 1st or 2nd all SEC teams last year. “But the stats say he had one of the greatest years of any quarterback in a decade along with Colt Brennan, Case Keenum, John Beck, and Graham Herrell!”
